It really comes down to if he wants to bet on himself. Ben Johnson could have been a HC 2 season ago. He took the gamble and waited a couple of years and then landed a pretty good job with the Bears. All of this posturing is to ensure the Saints give him the bag. If he doesn't take it, then he has to wait through a year where injuries could derail their
"run it back" season and present him with other franchises in terrible situations to take over -- if he even ends up on the short list next season. 75% of success at the highest level in this league is good fortune on injuries and turnovers. How many Super Bowls were we a few bounces or critical injuries from being in? --- The part he can control? Getting paid more in a career path fraught with risk and short tenures. The opportunity is now.

To be clear I am really hoping he takes the job, and I think he will. But him and his team are stupid if there not at least thinking about waiting another cycle and seeing if his stock can rise and maybe a better opportunity opens up.
Ben Johnson got all the fanfare but it seems to me that Kellen Moore was just as impressive if not more so. After all is said and done we could all look back and see how the Saints got the best OC available this cycle.
Waiting two years and then getting the Bears? That doesn't make the greatest case for waiting. It really comes down to if he wants to bet on himself. Ben Johnson could have been a HC 2 season ago. He took the gamble and waited a couple of years and then landed a pretty good job with the Bears.

Respectfully disagree. Moore just won a SB with the Eagles, while Johnson didn't even make it to the game. Your stock will never be higher than when you're holding the Lombardi. Maybe that's what Johnson was holding out for? If Moore has aspirations of being a HC, this is the time he is viewed as being at "peak hotness". Ask Bobby Slowik what happens the year after you failed to land a HC opportunity. Not saying any of that is a given....just what I believe is statistically likely. It really comes down to if he wants to bet on himself. Ben Johnson could have been a HC 2 season ago. Everywhere he’s been with one exceptionSpaggs is a pretty damn good DC.
I think he certainly has just as good of a chance of being successful as Ben Johnson, Coen, Schottenheimer, and Aaron Glenn. And maybe a better shot than some of them.
I would have to imagine his agent had a contract and offer on his desk this morning.I was hoping that It would be official this morning.
It's hard to judge Moore because of the insane level of talent he has at his disposal.Ben Johnson got all the fanfare but it seems to me that Kellen Moore was just as impressive if not more so. I don't really disagree with anything your saying, but everything in the NFL is a calculated risk. Most coaches only get one shot at being an HC and so it behooves him to at least look at other options.Respectfully disagree. What is statistically likely is that Moore is already on the most desirable tier, and there's only 1 opportunity available for him to exploit that popularity. Waiting another year for a "better opportunity" is certainly an option. But there are MANY downside risks to that, while the only upside is that he'll STILL be viewed as a top-tier SB winning HC candidate. Unless Moore was born in Atlanta, or was otherwise raised to despise the Saints, the smart money takes the bird in hand opportunity. Saints are going to have to really bungle something to undo this. Otherwise, he's coming. Let him enjoy the spoils of victory with his guys, and to remember the euphoria of planting his flag on the mountain. And let him wonder what it must feel like to be the man....the HC....who orchestrated the entire thing, rather than just doing his part. We are ready for you....BRING IT Coach!
Moore caught spags lacking a couple of times that turned into big plays. It's hard to judge Moore because of the insane level of talent he has at his disposal.
The best offensive line in the league.
The best running back in the league.
A true #1 receiver in AJ Brown.
A true #2 maybe #1 on some teams in Smith.
A very good TE as well.
Pro bowl caliber QB in Hurts.
That's seriously game breaking amount of talent and he most likely will never have that level of talent ever again.
I think Johnson was always viewed as a more “seasoned” coach overall and once he showed he was a top-flight OC this stock just exploded.Ben Johnson got all the fanfare but it seems to me that Kellen Moore was just as impressive if not more so.
