Kellen Moore most likely to be Saints coach; Moore has begun working on assembling staff; Schefter: “Moore is gonna be Saints coach barring a setback” (24 Viewers)

Call me crazy, but if the Saints are going to spend time developing a young QB, I'd rather not spend time developing someone with a built-in handicap, his size, unless there's something elite physically or mentally about them that indicates that they can be truly special. That's neither Haener nor Rattler.

If the season goes the way it should, the Saints should be picking in the teens. I don't know where this top 5 pick comes from, unless the expectation is for Moore to be a really terrible HC. DA can go 7-9 and 9-7, and we're supposedly getting a better HC? And they will do even worse than this year with all the injuries and the HC gets fired? Why not just keep DA or Rizzi if that's the expectation? I don't get it. Anyone expecting a top 5 pick, WTF?
Drew Brees had a built in handicap… So does Kyler Murray and Bryce Young…

And yes, getting a top 5ish pick is predicated on going with Rattler or Haener. If you’re outside of that top and land in the 15 range then that means whoever you went with is good enough to win games and you don’t need to draft a QB.

Its really tough to be top 1-3 pick terrible. Saints need to find a QB they either really love, aka Bo Nix'ish at 9 or we can find a guy in round 2. Penix jr and Bo Nix were shockers at where they were drafted last year.

I can draw plays in the dirt, can I be OC?

Wow, I wonder how much Loomis had to kiss Moore’s feet to get him to take the most awful job in the NFL universe.

Maybe they have a deal worked out that Loomis will step down.

Thank God the board will go back to normal
This is not an awful job. They’re many teams that have had worse
Trade down and get Dart and pick up an additional first.
How can you trade down when you don't even know who's left on the board. Saints need talent. I believe bpa in the 1st, then you look at positional needs

Even if that rumour is true, there are no Quarterbacks to go after in this draft. So, no, it shouldn't change the draft strategy at all.
This is not the year, that's why I'm open to dumping Carr and taking our cap lumps this year. Even though i think Carr gives the best chance this year have a 500 record. I'm cool with unofficially tanking.

I would say Jalen Milroe should be in high consideration. Big strong kid, big arm, fast!! Ideal dual threat QB similar to what Kellen Moore has in Philly. Very similar.
I don't think he should be type case based on Philly. The prototype is guys like Mahomes and Jayden, pocket passers who can beat with their legs too.

Last year was a loaded draft, I'm not sure how guys have a 1st round grade for next year.

We don't just need one player though. The roster is very thin at a lot of positions. The quickest route to becoming a good team again is a lot of good players, not a single star at the top of the draft. Stars are great and all, but just look at AK this past year. What good is he of there is not enough talent around him? If we can get more pick in the 2nd and 3rd rounds by trading back in the first we can start to see the team turn things around at a lot of positions.

Its not a prototype or a type case. I see an ideal prospect to try grooming. I actually like Milroe as a higher ceiling prospect vs Hurts draft. My point was that there are viable QBs available this draft other than the top 2. Philly was the tie in because it appears that KM is the new coach. He now has experience with a similar style QB.

If Moore is the HC after the Super Bowl, the Saints have some good pieces on both sides, but they need to showcased. Any new coach, regardless of who it is, will bring in their own new coaches. They will also try to bring in players who were familiar with their system and can teach the players on the current roster. Additionally, new coaches usually get to work with high or very high draft choices. When CSP first came to the Saints, we had the second pick in the draft. We got lucky (thanks, Houston) and drafted Reggie Bush. If Moore is our new head coach, I would expect him to draft an exciting player on offense, i.e. WR, RB, TE. Expect Jeanty, McMillan, or Warren. We need to get this offense rolling and need star players. This draft is loaded with Edge and DE players, so we should be able to get one in the 2nd or 3rd Rounds.

Although CSP was the youngest hire, he was 5-6 years older than Moore. If Moore is as hungry as CSP was, as I suspect he will be, then it should be a good hire.

Sign Justin Fields. He fits the mobile QB with running ability. He's taller than Hurts and Dak, but not as big as Herbert. He's taking the route of these high drafted QBs who went to bad programs, escaped and start the redemption arc.

Moore can build an offense around him. I like the QB room of Fields and Rattler. Both guys are mobile gamers with arm talent.

Trade down trade back, get more picks. We need more than one player and the shotgun approach provides a better chance to land at least one starter. I would like Dart and a solid TE. For the 9 which would be within the realm of possibilities.

Yeah I am warming up to the idea of Fields. Haven’t been a fan but he hasn’t exactly been in the best QB environments to thrive.

As has been proven with Mayfield and Darnold, many times it’s just a matter of a QB finding their right spot - the right system, right supporting cast, the right coach, the right locker room, the right home stadium, and the right city.

I'd love to trade down into the late 1st, but I don't think we're getting an additional 1st to do that this year. Not enough in demand players at the top I fear. But we could for sure get an additional 2nd and 3rd this year and maybe a 2nd next year. Not only because it helps us get more players, but it also help us with the cap this year and next. Let use the Texans as an example.

Per the rookie wage scale on spotrac, our #9 pick costs $4,433,163 in the first year. Their #25 costs $2,761,337, #58 costs $1,296,909, and #89 costs $1,097,668. That gives us three new players for only $722,751 more than the one player we'd get at #9.

Depending on position, that would allow us to replace some players that make more money. Let's look at DT. Nathan Shepherd is on the last year of his contract. His cap number is $7 million this year with a dead cap of $4 million next year due to void years. We could cut Shepherd, draft a DT in the 3rd to replace him at a slightly lower cap number for 2025 and clear his dead money for 2026.

Jaxson Dart at #40 or #58 would cost nearly the same as we'd save by cutting Carr and would work nearly the same as with Shepherd.

These are the kinds of moves we need to make now to ensure the next coach has a fighting chance to build a good team by year 3. We're not going to be able to be good and get the cap straight at the same time, it's time to start widdling away at it with moves like these. Yes, we WILL have to do some trickery with some older players contracts to get under the cap for 2025. There is no free lunch here. But this is the way forward for a quick rebuild. More day 2 picks in exchange for our higher day 1 pick.
Hopefully the staff thinks like you.

SP didn't have to start with a rookie QB. He was able to find a QB to run his offense, a castoff from SD who moved on to their shiny new QB. SP needed DB for his offense.

Fast forward to 2025, the game has changed and Moore is the modern offense OC. Fields was cast aside for a new shiny QB by Chicago. Moore looks to favor mobile QBs over drop back guys. He's still really young and Moore can build an offense around him.

Starting a rebuild without having to spend draft capital on a QB gives the rebuild an instant head start.
