Kellen Moore most likely to be Saints coach; Moore has begun working on assembling staff; Schefter: “Moore is gonna be Saints coach barring a setback” (45 Viewers)

After the Liam Coen Jags thing and Josh McDaniel a few years ago with the Colts, is anybody else worried that Moore gets cold feet in the next couple of weeks and we’re not only left at the altar but with tremendous damage to the reputation of this franchise. Moore’s going to be hearing a lot of opinions thrown his way by pundits who need something to talk about saying what a bad situation the Saints are in. Gonna be a nerve wracking couple of weeks.
What’s the worst that can happen? We were already the worst destination this offseason. It looks far fetched that this franchise is ready to compete for a Super Bowl anytime soon. I’d prefer Moore because he at least has some level of upside but Loomis has created a really challenging situation. People forget that even Sean Payton wasn’t competing for super bowls at the end of his stay here…and the situation appears more dire at this point.

Even if that were accurate, which it most likely isn't, there's still the fact that as of this moment, Kafka, Rizzi and Weaver have not withdrawn their names.

I don't buy for a second that the league would penalize a team for reporters saying sources indicate that Moore will be the hire. In the past, reporters have bragged about their inside sources telling them that Coach X will be the new coach. There is no evidence the league would penalize a team for anything other than a formal press announcement from the team.

There have been definitive reports in the past about how a coach would be announced as the new head coach once the coach was out of the playoffs. I don't recall any team ever being penalized for any of those reports. I searched for the specific policy about announcing hires and didn't find anything on it.

Moore may very well have been told he has the job. I'm not saying that's not the case. I'm simply saying that people are saying what is publicly known proves things they don't actually prove, if you consider everything that is publicly known.
Moore can’t officially sign with the Saints until after the Super Bowl. His team is still playing. This is no difference than last year when they waited on Klint. Most people speculated he was hire but it couldn’t be said definite he was the hire because his team was still playing. This is same as Ben Johnson is the favorite for the Bears job for weeks. His first stop after the loss was the Bears he was signed. The NFL doesn’t like things to out shine the Super Bowl. I know this is the first time the Saints hired a head coach of a Super Bowl team, but this is the common practice. It is to announce it but not really announce it. Yes Moore isn’t under contract. He could pull a Josh McDaniel with the Colts and back out the last minute. If it was one of the other coaches the Saints could have hired them already. That’s why Mike backed out because they weren’t serious in talking to him and he felt it was Moore. He happened a couple years ago with the Eagles. The Eagles lost both coordinators. It was highly suggested that Shane Steichen was going to the Colts and John Gannon was going to the Cardinals. I watched the Cardinals closer because Peyton interviewed there and I wanted the early fist round pick. Once he chose Denver it was down to Gannon and Lou Anarumo. Anarumo never pulled his name.

You don’t think a HC candidate like Moore would already have guys lined up?

There’s plenty of guys out there.

Heck, he may even have guys he’s coaching with this weekend already in the loop that he’s bringing them with him with promotions.

Doug Nussmeier, the Eagles QB coach, has moved with him at just about every stop he’s been to, so don’t be surprised if the former Saint gets the OC title.
I hope so. I also hopes he has enough savvy to stand up to Loomis and get the team headed in the right direction.

Got to be Moore. Think of the optics. His Eagles are using the Saints facilities for SB practice. Moore gets to see the facilities (which he didn't yet see in the in-person interview), meet with Saints staff regularly, then, Monday morning after the Super Bowl, the Saints introduce Moore as their new HC, hopefully coming off a SB win. He's already in NO. That would be a good look.

The Saints have some significant challenges to overcome but that’s true of every underperforming team. Cowboys, Jags, Raiders, and Jets all have ownership concerns. Benson seems committed to facilitating team needs but otherwise stays out of the way. Management, coaches, and players come and go but poor ownership - whether over-involved, incompetent, impatient, etc - is a much bigger impediment to winning a championship. We know from our own history the Saints would never accomplish anything under Mecom.

Wrong!

We were a NFL Farm System for every other team in the NFL! ;)

It's only been 48 hours (2 days) since the Saints interviewed Moore who was their last interview. Loomis is always deliberate and patient, hence all the "what's taking him so long" complaints.

Loomis and the hiring committee taking a few days to deliberate over all of the candidates would not be "dragging" anything out and the reason they'd be doing it is to be extremely thorough to make sure they make a good hire.

Yes I did listen to Kafka's interview. You're hearing what you want to hear. There was nothing he said or did that indicated anything about where he stands with the job.

Maybe, maybe not. Time will tell.

He may want the job, but the Saints may not have decided who they want just yet.

Notice the language reporters are using: "front runner," "driver's seat," "final decision not made yet" and all the other descriptions. None of them are as definitive as people are reading them to be.

Ever been in the passenger seat on the steep drop off side of a mountain road? That's the same kind of anxiety that a lot of fans seem to be experiencing. Not having any real information or control over the situation seems to have a lot of people white knuckling over who the Saints will or did hire.

The hiring committee doesn't have that anxiety, because they have all of the information and all of the control, so they don't feel pressured to have to rush to make or announce their decision.
Moore has a Super Bowl to try to win...

He probably asked our FO to keep this quite so that he can coach without having to answer ten thousand questions about coaching the Saints...

It has nothing to do with anxiety... just deductive reasoning.

I think it is show what of this. I think it more on the NFL side though. If it is announced he is the coach of the Saints and then the Eagles come out on offense and don't show up. It's going to be well he took another job and he had one foot out the door. The NFL wants everything to appear to be on the up and up. In college coaches leave and they will work both jobs if they have a bowl sometimes, but per NFL they can't accept a job until the end of their teams season. That is why Allen and Johnson signed quickly.

Ummm, the Cardinals just did get hit for tampering two years ago for Johnathon Gannon. They dropped their 3rd round pick to the end of the round and lost a 5th….

Can you imagine if Kellen Moore does work out? That would two coaches that Jerry Jones let get away.

They contacted and basically hired him after the NFC championship game. That’s why they got hit. If reports come out that we have hired Moore, guess what happens?
The teams released a joint statement detailing the tampering charges and the settlement, in which they explained that Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort had an impermissible phone conversation with Jonathan Gannon, who, at the time, was the Eagles' defensive coordinator, days after the Eagles won the NFC Championship Game. Gannon was eventually hired as the Cardinals' head coach on Feb. 14, two days after losing Super Bowl LVII, which was played at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

This is pretty clearly laid out.
