Kellen Moore most likely to be Saints coach per Garafalo, Hire not finalized yet due to SB; Kellen Moore in driver seat per Jonathan Jones (87 Viewers)

I understand that, but it’s still behind the teams that picked their HC and started filling out their staff. I think you know what I meant

Nah, you were very specific in what you said and that false narrative being pushed on here.

However, Moore isn't behind anything. He knew he was in contention for a HC hiring cycle this year and he should already have a list of guys that he wants on his staff. His OC as mentioned in another thread is probably going to be Doug Nussmeier who has been with him in Dallas, Los Angeles and now in Philly. If that's the case and it looks like it is, Moore will be a playcalling HC like SP and Andy Reid. Nussmeier would be there to do the day to day OC stuff like PC for SP.

As for the DC, he has options. He can go with a veteran DC and I don't know what good ones are out there unemployed, so that means he's probably looking at guys for a promotion. Promoting someone from any positional coach position to DC is a promotion and I would say everyone is still available if that's the case. We have no idea what defense he wants to run, but the Eagles defense is what he has recent experience. That defense focused heavily on a great DL and playmakers at LB/DB. It's also a 3-4. I wouldn't be surprised if he went with something like that so maybe a current positional coach from the Eagles.

I'm curious who all KK took with him since the OL coaches we had last year are some of the best in the business for wide zone blocking. I don't know if Moore prefers that blocking scheme or power gap. There are a lot of questions on what he would want. He's had 3 different styles of QBs so I don't even know his QB preference.

Overall, it's not as bad as so many on here like to say it is. He's going to be a young HC so it might be a youth movement in the coaching staff with some veteran/experienced guys around as mentors which is looks like Nussmeier is that veteran/experienced guy on the offensive side.

So, can KM, assuming he is the pick, not start working on his staff until the hire is official? Saints were already behind schedule picking a HC let alone staffing the vacancies.
Most coaches already know who they are going to hire at the top positions OC/DC. The Falcons hired Shanahan before Quinn was done with the Super Bowl. The Colts hired Frank Reich as OC to pair with Josh McDaniel before he changed his mind. I still think they have to do Rooney interviews though. It’s mostly part of the interview process of who is your OC/DC. I heard Kafka most likely will hire Wink Martindale as DC. Just like last year Zach Robinson was a hot OC candidate, but it was widely known that he was tied to Rheem Morris and was going where he got hired.

He performed better than Burrow and Daniels both did their first seasons starting at LSU. Nuss will come out on fire next year, book it
And with way worse of a receiver corp. There were times last year where guys just were not getting open. And for as highly rated as the tackles are, the interior line play was just not on that level and he had absolutely no run game to support him. Nuss needs to work on his touch but for a first year starter he did fine, I think everyone jumped the gun on year 3.

Interesting that we haven’t heard of the OL coaches being allowed to leave. Makes me wonder if we are blocking them, which is within our rights, and want to make sure they’re available for the new HC to decide on.

I’m happy with Moore, young talent, offensive guy, probably not the greatest on camera personality but so what. Let’s hope he can find a solid dc and other talented coaches.

Any other source confirming it, yet/ I know it can't be official, but looking for another source.

Now that they have waited far too long to decide on a head coach, who will the OC and DC? I imagine all the prime candidates have been grabbed up already by teams that know how to make a decision.
How have we waited far too long? Johnson never was a candidate. Glenn chose NY. Brady pulled his name. Yeah McCarthy could've been brought in sooner, but whose to say they wasn't real high in him anyways. Kafka and Weaver were kicking the tires interviews. I mean most of the guys we had our eye in was in the playoffs. If Detroit had kept winning, the Bears would still be waiting. So if the guy you are hiring is in the Superbowl, how have we waited too long. Yeah we could've hired Rizzi a month ago. I don't think a lot on here wanted that. So you have to wait.

Tweeted by Jane a couple of weeks ago following his Cowboys interview…

You can tell he’s smart. His filler word in interviews is “obviously”. Reminds me of the guy in that movie The Platform. He also tends to finish sentences for interviewers when they get hung up on a question for more than a second or so.

I think it is delusional to think that Nuss will ever be at the level of a Burrow or JD.....but I guess anything is possible!!!!

I really think my favorite thing about a Kafka hire would be if he brought Wink Martindale in as DC. First, I love his attacking defense and second, as a kid who grew up watching morning game shows in the 70s and 80s, it amuses me that his name is Wink Martindale.

On a more serious note, I wonder if Moore would consider Martindale as an experienced DC to bring in and also be the Assistant HC to help him with his experience?

Underhill speculated that Moore could look at Brandon Staley since he worked for him with the Chargers. Would not be my choice, because I really want a switch to an attacking 3-4 or 3-4 hybrid defense.
