Kenny Pickett "Saints we're my toughest interview" (1 Viewer)

Pickett’s high number of fumbles scares me. I don’t see how that decreases in the NFL compared to college.

Darnold had a big interception problem in college, and it didn’t get any better in the NFL.

Tepper is making this pick. If he tells them to take a QB they will, and Rhule will still be fired. I have no idea which way they’ll go.

I think that Pickett may be the only QB in this draft that could save Rhule. I don't think he's great and I'm not sure that he's going to ever be a very good NFL QB, but he has a high floor with a fairly high ceiling. Plus, he is the only guy in the draft that could start from day one as he has run an offense where he had to read the entire field, not just run RPOs.

Frankly, he's probably better than what they have now so maybe even Rhule would be on board with taking Pickett?

I hadn't heard that about Pickett.
Good to know.

Amazing how the mocks change over the weeks. Beginning of March, most of the mocks had the Saints taking Olave at 18. Pickett was to be selected in the top 8 picks.

Now I have seen several mocks where the Saints will select Pickett at 18. Has his stock fallen that much or are less teams looking for a QB in the first round?

Neither. The "draft experts" on TV and on the internet just become fascinated by guys who had great combines and project them higher than they will actually go. Pickett was always the most ready and closest to a sure thing NFL starter in this draft.

Yeah I know they might pick Pickett especially if they hear the Saints are interested because that’s how petty they are. But Rhule is gone no matter what. Pickett will need time to develop and Rhule doesn’t have the time nor the respect from Tepper.

I’m seeing Tepper wanting Pickett at six. You know that’s one owner who’s hands are all over the draft board. He’s been quite ever since his Watson deal started dwindling. Now, they have no interest in Baker, who would be a pretty nice upgrade in Pantherland. My gut says he’s picking Pickett - with an outside chance of Malik.

It seemed like Brees use to fumble almost every time he was hit early in his career. But he learned to get rid of it quick, make good reads, and the Saints generally protected him. If the Saints protect Pickett he’d be fine over time

Watson is a proven top 5 QB, Pickett is an unknown rook. That's a big difference and Loomis has lost out on every significant FA this offseason.
Not sure you got my point at all.
and to set the record straight. I know nothing about Pickett at all.

my point is if the front office sees this as their guy they will trade away draft capital to move up. It looked like they were going to give up 3 years of first round picks for Watson (and I know hes Good). They will for sure give up another 1st and possibly a second if they think he is their guy and want him.

This is why people are making such a big deal about his hand size, and he wears the gloves for ball protection... and not for grip to throw the ball.

The small hands/fumble thing is real. Joe Burrow has small hands as well, and he has been sacked 83 times and fumbled 14 times in his 2 years.

Wherever Pickett goes he'll need to be protected because he can't help fumbling the ball.

Looking through draft Bio's and I found this interesting after reading up on Picket

Pickett is only the third QB ACC to pass for 4000 yds and 40 TDs - the previous two were Jameis Winston and Deshaun Watson.

It is true that there are no superstars in this draft at quarterback
This logic defies me. It doesn't take a draft field of superstars to get a great player. Tom Brady was a 6th. Drew a 2nd. Ryan Leaf, JaMarcus Russell, Matt Leinhart, and many more busts were 1st's.

It takes is the right prospect to the right team. How a guy is graded in the draft by talking heads means absolutely nothing.

We did that for Davenport but I can't really recall anyone else. I think we are going to have to move up to get a top receiver.

Let's face it, our division is getting weaker and we have the defence to make the playoffs. This year, we are drafting almost at the middle of the first round, but if things go well, we are going to be drafting in the 20s for years to come.

It is true that there are no superstars in this draft at quarterback, but I think the prospects are very competitive. To me, getting a guy that will start for us for years to come at pick #18 is a chance that we should not let pass.

I think Pickett, Willis and Corral are worth the 18th pick. I actually think Ridder is also worth the pick even when he is projected to be drafted later. The position makes the over-draft worthy.

Today, our team is not better than last year, and not even close to what it was too years ago. And still, I am confident we can make the playoffs this year. Going to the Super Bowl? No so.

The immediate impact may come from a wide receiver, but I would be very happy if our pick is a left tackle or one of the quarterbacks.

I really think that it is unfair the pressure on the shoulders of this young man, every one thinks he will be the best next thing even when he still has ways to go.

And, if the guy ends being the prospect everyone hopes for, he will be drafted early and I think, far from the reach of the saints.
I like Carson Strong from Nevada also…just not super mobile.
