Kicker Connor Barth to sign with Saints (3 Viewers)

My buddy and I were at the Jags game when Carney missed the extra point. Shortly after the game ended we were arrested. We were acting like drunken idiots, but I still blame Carney

.

I blame the coach - he should have pulled the entire XP team back to the sidelines while the delay was going on and have them trot back out to keep their "normal rhythm".

Totally agree. A 30 yard Field Goal shouldn't be an edge of your seat, nail biting roller coaster of emotion. Yet for the past several years that's exactly what we've had to live through. For the love of God, please let Barth be the Kicker we've been waiting for all these years. He's either going to be the guy or just the next guy in long, sad list of names best forgotten:

John Carney
Billy Cundiff
Martin Gramatica
Olindo Mare
Garrett Hartley
Taylor Mehlhaff
John Kasay
Shayne Graham
Zach Hocker
Kai Forbath

could be worse----

Here’s the full list of Browns quarterbacks since they re-entered the league as an expansion team in 1999: Tim Couch, Ty Detmer, Doug Pederson, Spergon Wynn, Kelly Holcomb, Jeff Garcia, Luke McCown, Trent Dilfer, Charlie Frye, Derek Anderson, Ken Dorsey, Brady Quinn, Bruce Gradkowski, Colt McCoy, Jake Delhomme, Seneca Wallace, Brandon Weeden, Thaddeus Lewis, Jason Campbell, Brian Hoyer, Johnny Manziel, Connor Shaw, Josh McCown, Austin Davis.

Man... looking at that list hurts. Partly because there was a lot of "supposed to" with these guys and I remember being high on Mehlhaff when we first signed him....

Still hoping we sign Pastelli (Spelling... I've been drinking). I'd like to see him and Barth battle it out for the spot.

Couple of those and then Barth are on the top 30 of all time as far as percentage

I wanted us to get Succop so bad two years ago when he hit the market. We still paying the price for not signing him when we had the chance.

Their only job is to kick the ball. Why is it so hard for those nfl tier kickers to accomplished?

I can't believe so many people think this guy is going to be the savior at kicker. I don't know if there is anything better out there, and I hope I eat my words, but I just don't see him doing any better than the kickers we've had in the past few years. Again, I hope I eat my words!

Amen! I'll take someone who can make a gimmie from inside 40 and who is 86% from 40-49 all day!!!

Everyone shouldn't be stressing for a 35yd kick like we have been.
---------------------------------------------
We had the above with Shayne Graham.
Still don't know why we got rid of him.
Automatic inside 39 ( one of the best all time)
Graham is 94 % in that range.
Better career % than Barth on all kicks.

True but their best days were well behind them by the time they made it to NOLA. Carney was pretty good for us but every time I hear his name I think of one thing...missing that extra point after one of the best plays in Saints history.

Here's the deal with Barth, on extra points and FGs from 39 in, he's money. He's 78 of 82 on FGs 39 and in. He's 174 of 175 on XPs.

From 40 out he's not automatic but still decent. From 40-49 he's 43 of 55. He's 16 of 25 from 50+.

I'll take a Kicker who can consistently make the gimmes all day long. Barth will make the gimmes and he'll give you a decent shot at the long stuff.

agree. you should always get points from the 32 and in. as far as the not many touchbacks, didn't they change the rule about ball placement for touchbacks? maybe it will work to our favor.

I was really hoping we would have picked up Ka’imi Fairbairn from UCLA. The Texans picked up a really good kicker.
