Klint Kubiak on starting Spencer Rattler: “Looking forward to watching him let his natural ability take over” (2 Viewers)

Dude!!! That cat was the DUDE when he wasn't given time . He was a total dud, when he did have time..
Score 21 points vs 9'rs in comeback in like 90 seconds.
Ps was referring to Mike buck mention.

Phone , quote not working as expected.

So, in a perfect world, Rattler shows enough to be the future, Carr gets cut and saves 30m towards the cap in 2025, and the Saints go get a manster TE, some OLine depth, and a few younger defensive pieces with the savings.

Profit?

Let's see SR prove himself before we crown him. He's a rookie who hasn't played a regular season game yet. I hope he plays well enough to make Carr expendable, but let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

And God forbid SR gets injured then we'd really need Carr back.

In opposite world maybe.... You definitely have me confused with someone else... I wanted JW run outta here on a rail from day 1...
You certainly did and were called all kinds of things because of it.

Well, his whole thing was start Taysom and screw everyone else, lol.

A little exaggeration, but close. Heh.

At the time and in that situation…. Yeah. We didn’t have Carr or Rattler or Jake then. We do now. Context matters. Taysom was our best option to win games…. and while JW was a cool dude…. He was no where near the answer at QB to win us the division.

I could be banging the table for Taysom to be the starter at QB now…. And at this point if he were not injured…. It would have merit. But I’m not doing that. Spencer gives us the best chance, and has the potential to be the future…. I want what I think is best for the team. Full stop.

It came off like that, but I think it was a bit different in reality. He, like many of us thought Jameis wasn't good and had seen a lot of him over the years to make that judgement. Taysom on the other hand hadn't been given hardly any opportunity to play QB despite being a great player overall, an impossible matchup for defenses and a average passer. Some of us wanted to give him a shot to be the guy full time in the absence of a real QB of the future. Carr definitely quieted that down for a minute.

That’s why I ended it with “Profit?”

IF he plays well enough, is that what the plan looks like moving forward?

I think we will flash and play well…. Whether or not the team helps him enough to get a win or two…. Who knows. But if they do…. And he proves he can be the guy going forward…. I think they let Carr play when he’s healthy this year, and we have a serious discussion about what to do in the offseason at QB.

That is the best case scenario as far as the future goes. The offseason discussion would be really tough if we were to decide to move off of Carr. He has a no trade clause, and it would cost $50 million to move off of him and $51 million to keep him without a restructure. It would be really hard to keep the future on the bench as well.

Agreed. But with Spencer’s rookie deal…. It at least gives you an option.

Kind of. The financial side of having a cheap QB you want to play with another one you don't want to play that has a cap number of $50 million is tough. Sean Payton went through that this season and they are carrying that $53 million in dead money and playing their rookie. Everyone thought they were insane to do it and it would be much more difficult to do that here.
