LA Wildfires- again (1 Viewer)

They have always had fires, the difference is people live where the fires are.

It's sort of like when I lived in Houston. Tons of people built houses in the flood zone and then they cry when a hurricane comes through and their homes are destroyed.

I am enjoying the low humidity and warm weather down here in SD. Nice change from 60%+ humidity

I think the data show they are increasing in magnitude. Even the unpopulated areas are subject to fire management by a mix of federal, state, and local agencies - and the outbreaks are tracked.

A lot of the fires are caused by people in one way or another.

Yeah that’s fair too. Last year’s Camp Fire started on unpopulated National Park land but it was caused by fire from an old camper trailer. I think the wheel hub started throwing off sparks.

Probably only the bigger fires make national news but there are tons of fires that pop up around the big cities like San Diego, but they're put out relatively quickly. We see it on the local news every day.

Labron James was evacuated at 3:30 am. Was driving around trying to find rooms for his family.
(?????? No friends in the area!!!???)

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver we’re evacuated, but they found a place to stay.

Bruce Willis and his family were evacuated, and left with only their passports and a change of clothes. Can you imagine?

200K have been evacuated & the are currently battling 16 fires throughout the state.

PG&E has admitted AGAIN, that one of their broken wires may have caused the Kincade fire.

There just has to be a better solution, than experiencing this tragedy of so many lives, every time the Santa Anna winds come through.

405, which is the worst highway in the United States & jam packed 24/7/365, was even shut down when the fires got close to the Getty Museum. That alone, has to have a tremendous impact on commerce and the economy.

It is just an enigma, to me, why some of the incredible brains in this country, can’t figure out a more efficient & life saving solution.

The news feed on my phone just said that some of the fire fighters work 16 hour days, for 14 days straight. Just gotta be a better solution.

PG&E wishes this was true.

Seems like after the fires de-vegitate the hillsides the rain hits they have mudslides. Cannot understand why after decades of rinse and repeat the State allows the power providers to kick the can down the road and not bury the lines (esp in rural areas)?

You would think burying or encasing cross country lines would be a help. Power companies want nothing to do with that and lobby heavily to maintain the status quo. Yes it’s more costly, but then you can reduce lawsuits that way.

PG&E has been run like garbage since deregulation. Basic maintenance, keeping stuff cut away from lines all that has been a mess for years, and it’s finally caught up with them. A few years ago there was an unitive to basically not hold the power companies responsible for these fires which was of course not voted in. Most every major fire has been their fault, and right now they applied for bankruptcy again and turning off power to a third of the state. Right now in the valley we have the worst air quality on record, encouraged to. It even go outside.

You got that right! Someone with some brains needs to get control of the situation and find some solutions that work.

As the fires were moving towards the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, I was reading an article that said the library brings in 100's of goats every year. The goats chew thru the vegetation surrounding the complex. So they are at least doing something to protect the Air Force One jet & all of the history that is preserved there.

I also read that Lebron James paid for 2 Taco Trucks to feed the firefighters, who are working tirelessly. Now that is a good use of his NBA $$$, imho.
