N/S Lamar Jackson perplexed that other teams know their plays (1 Viewer)

And this is the same thing that we will face after Brees with TH7 under center yet there are people calling for him to take over the reigns.
This is true and it’ll only work for a few years. It’s basically a small window of opportunity for a Super Bowl and I’m fine with that as TH7 as QB. That’s who he is but as Payton for head coach I believe TH7 would thrive and only under Payton’s system would he thrive. It would be a whole new show that we’d get to witness as TH7 under center and Payton devising an entire new type of offense we haven’t seen before. My .02 anyways lol

The QB position is changing, but you still have to be able to throw the ball with accuracy and efficiency. As long as people are more afraid of Lamar Jackson's legs than they are of his arm, it's not gonna get any better. It's gonna regress because people will catch up with the scheme.

I hear you but I don't think Payton will change what he's been doing for 14 years to adjust to a new QB. My personal belief is that Hill continues in his current role.

Along the same lines, I think Payton will begin to call more pass plays for Hill moving forward.

And he's not going to always be able to outrun defenders. Vick became a more complete QB in his years after prison. His ability to play from the pocket allowed him to extend his playing years once he returned.

Jackson and their coaching staff are going to use what they have while they have it. Harbaugh even talked about how they tailored their offense to fit Jackson's skill set instead of the other way around. Now granted, the philosophy will only work for as long as Jackson is able to outrun defenders.

It is not so much whether your offense outsmarts a defense, it is whether they can execute the play anyway. A few tricks are always nice! It sounds like Mr Jackson' offense is not executing often enough and depends on his play making ability. Remember the Wishbone? All you had to do was miss an assignment on Defense and the RB was gone to the races!

The fact that he didn't realize that in a multi billion dollar business there's endless scouting information out there... Formations, down, distance, personnel packages, game situation, body language tendency, time in huddle, lip reading, signal stealing... Just wow. There's a finite about of information a player can learn so it's expected that many plays will be repeated. There's always going to be favorite routes, plays, etc.

This is one of the reasons Payton's offense is so successful. We run more formations and personnel groupings than anyone. We work hard to disguise our tendencies. Sounds like Lamar is either not a part of that game planning process or the Ravens do not value disguising tendencies.

No where in that 45 seconds they spent on the topic did he say he was surprised that defenses knew what they were doing or might correctly call their plays. He said they talk with the coaches and make adjustments at halftime.

Thats what was actually said.

I don’t believe he’d change the entire offense, but it would be tailored to TH7 and I would love to see how Payton would use him in a more defined starter role. I agree it would be pretty much the same we see now, but we haven’t seen what TH7 would be like in 60 minutes of offense either.

Cam Newton type all over again. They make plays with their legs and rarely with their arms. It’s the college QB that never develops into an NFL QB. They don’t last long. Newton took the league by storm in his early years. Now that he has to rely on his arm and what’s between the ears, his career is pretty much over. He’s been awful since he can’t rely on his legs anymore. He’s never been accurate, ever. Sucks but I believe Jackson’s career will end up the same. And that goes for every other QB that has the same skill set now or in the future. QBs like Russell Wilson are the exception, he’s accurate and thinks pass first. If nothing, he can run like the best scramblers in the league.
The difference is that people were afraid to tackle Cam Newton. I'd bet there are high school kids that would take Jackson head up.

Yea and that’s why DBs and LBs crushed him every chance they got too. I remember some serious shots against him that would’ve drawn unsportsmanlike conduct on any other QB. Never cared for him anyway, I’m sure others felt that way too, and I meant football players lol

He’s very talented. That’ll get you a year or two of success in the NFL, if you’re lucky. I don’t find him to be very cerebral.

LJ is able to pass the ball... so does this fall on the coach or does this fall on his limited ability to read offenses and want to run too soon? The guy is too talented.. I think it's coaching. Time shall tell. How many years it took for SP to stop throwing the RB screen?

Baltimore got away with middle of the road offenses when the Ravens had lock down defenses. The lack of a dominant defense is exposing the offense, and Lamar Jackson is not taking everyone by surprise. As others have pointed out, film study is a thing defenses do on a weekly basis.

This eventually happens with every young super athletic QB that relies on their mobility way too much... They are world beaters their first year or two... and if they don't develop the ability to read defenses and consistently beat you from the pocket... they fade into the sunset.

I think Lamar has the ability... so I guess we'll have to wait and see.
100% facts right here case in point mr mahomes . Run first quarterbacks usually only make the first 2 reads & haul it after that lol. Pocket quarterbacks still win championships imo, even though it’s fading
