Jihaad Campbell is not a name I see much on the forum, but he would be a good fit here. Demario has maybe one good season left and Campbell would fit the new scheme better. He can do it all and be a ‘joker’ of sorts on defense. You can argue that at his position he’s not a top ten caliber prospect, but he’d be a safe pick.

I’m not the biggest Jaxon Dart guy, but getting him in the late first would be good value. Of course, the first round can’t be judged completely until we see how the rest of our draft goes, but this would be a solid start I think.

Campbell makes sense @ 9-- tremendous upside, fills a need, -wouldn't be disappointed. Dart @32 seems like a right spot, but probably gone before.

Will Johnson dropping to 15 is where this mock loses me. The Saints would jump all over him IMO unless the team's medicals say otherwise.

I’d take Johnson too. There are so many ways we can go. The only thing I’d be disappointed in is if we give up the 9 and change to move up to get Ward.

The saints have had no real interest in Johnson so far.

I’m not surprised at all he’s dropping due to his medicals and other issues.

I don’t see the team passing on Jeanty especially if it plays out this way.

These mockers seem pretty unable to pinpoint what the saints actually need and are generally just throwing things at the wall.

They’re going “The saints? Oh let’s just throw some random prospect at them and move on”.

Saints need a LB not a surprising pick but I’d prefer him back of round 1 following his surgery.

While not disagreeing that the medicals will be important, publicly-known interest from the Saints has been shown to have limited correlation to who they actually select over the course of time.

And the Saints happily took another corner high who had ongoing hamstring issues.

I don't understand the Jihaad Campbell picks coming up lately (also saw it on NFL Stock Exchange's recent podcast episode with the guys from Bootleg Football).

Every description of him I have seen is plus athlete with great size and slow processing speed. Then questions of whether or not he's an off ball LB or should transition to Edge to start learning a pass rush plan. As an off ball, that sounds like Stephone Anthony or James White. From a development perspective, that sounds like Baun/Ellis situations all over again (both good players, but certainly wouldn't have been worth a 1st round rookie contract).

I personally don't like the idea of taking an off ball LB at pick 9 in general, unless they are elite in all areas. Solid to good vets are available in FA for cheap every offseason for off ball LBers. I can't think of many times where "great body but poor processing" or "is he off ball or a raw edge" has worked out well for drafting teams. And while his testing numbers were very good, they are not eye popping to me.

OL, DL, WR, and CB all seem like way better financial investments and we have openings at each of these spots. I'm curious what others are seeing in Campbell that make him seem like such a valuable fit.
