Lance Zierlein 2025 NFL mock draft 3.0 (1 Viewer)

If you draft Jeanty at 9, are you ok with having a top 5 NFL RB but only for 5 years? That's probably what you're looking at.
I’d take it. 5 top 5 seasons on a rookie deal? That would be transformative for our offense, and you cant project anything more than 5 years out in the NFL anyway.

Let's look at what top 10 drafted RBs have done in the last 25 years:

Bijan Robinson: Early in his career but promising.
Saquon Barkley: Generational talent.
Leonard Fournette: Very short span of good productivity.
Ezekiel Elliott: Short span of high productivity.
Todd Gurley: Short span of high productivity.
Trent Richardson: Short span of high productivity.
CJ Spiller: Short span of high productivity.
Darren McFadden: Short span of high productivity.
Adrian Peterson: Generational talent.
Reggie Bush: Interestingly, not a short span of high productivity but a long span of medium productivity.
Ronnie Brown: Bust
LT: Generational Talent

I think what we see here is that top 10 RBs are most likely to end up in a position where they are productive for their teams, but with a very short life span. Very low "bust" rate, but certainly no guarantee you're dealing with a generational talent.

That's essentially a rookie deal for an elite player; I'm okay with that. The issue with most elite running backs is that their teams overuse them in the beginning, and that's why the Giants let Saquon walk. If you get elite production from an RB for 5 years on a rook deal, that's a worthwhile investment.

Yes. I see Jeanty production wise as Marshawn Lynch with Seattle right out of the gate. A quick, compact bruiser that breaks tackles and breaks the long one if you don't mind your P's and Q's. A truly offense-defining player.

Yeah no kidding. He said 5 years as if that’s an insignificant amount of time. 😂

Not every draft pick, even in the first round, is going to be some decade long career guy. A five year run of great, top level play is a win.

The biggest elephant in the room nobody is mentioning is us trading with the Eagles again. I wonder what they would ask for to move up to 32, I'm thinking 2026 1st round pick, 2025 2nd and 3rd round pick.

No way it would take that much. A move from 40 to 32 would only cost maybe pick 93, and even with that, you’re likely asking the Eagles to send you back a late round pick.

I understand that, but its the Eagles. They know the Saints have a weak GM, you know they are going to ask for the farm and Mickey will give it to them as usual. When have you known the Eagles to make a fair trade with us.

You may as well offer that package to move from 9 into the top 3 if you’re going to do that. 😂

I think there’s a chance that Dallas Goedert may be involved in the semi-annual Howie Roseman/Mickey Loomis trade-off competition.

There’s no way ML is going to be able to sit on this much cap space. lol

You just described draft season in a nutshell.
Well they do need linebackers. Davis is aging and the rest are pretty mediocre. Don't know enough to say whether Campbell is the guy at 9, but LB is a need. Hell you could pick just about any position as a position of need for NOS.

I like the idea of trading up in this draft, but not in the first (in fact I wouldn't be upset if we traded back a few - unless Jeanty or Warren were still there).

Trade up in the second. Or rather, keep 40 and trade back  into the second. Something like 70 + one of our 4th rounders + next year's third could get us back in the mid-second. With some good talent there.

that would be huge for our defense also, we have a top 5 RB in the league and were controlling the clock and the defense is staying fresh.
