Lest ye forget, another DA bungle: losing Aaron Glenn, Ryan Nielsen, and Kris Richard (1 Viewer)

DA had nothing to do with Glenn except helping him land a promotion. Glenn is not performing well as of late, but DA had nothing to do with him leaving for Detroit. Nielsen wanted his opportunity to show what he's got due to DA calling the plays. He's basically running Allen's scheme for another team and running it well. Kris Richard is currently unemployed.

Ryan Nielsen is really the only serious mishandling.

Payton obviously had big plans for Nielsen, and what he's done with the glue eating birds defense is nothing short of impressive considering he has notably less talent to work with than Allen has. Their defense has allowed less yards and points than the Saints.

Payton promoted Nielsen all the way to Assistant Head Coach and constantly had Loomis upping his pay to keep him here. Allen demotes him from Assistant Head Coach and won't let him call plays, no surprise he bolted first opportunity he got.

Allen has a lot of faults as a losing coach. Losing Nielsen, Richard and Glenn isn’t the cause of this team losing.

Glenn took a promotion to run his own defense a season before Allen became HC. Nothing could be done to stop Glenn from leaving for a higher position while Allen was DC over a defense that DA developed and maintained.

Nielsen also took a promotion to become standalone DC. D-Line pass rush was still inconsistent or nonexistent while Nielsen was over the D-Line here.

Richard was the only coach that was let go and his termination improved the secondary a lot in turnovers. We have over twice the amount of INTs that we had last year with Richard running the secondary and defense. The blown coverages at inopportune times still happened during Richard’s tenure as co-DC/DB coach. Richard isn’t coaching anyone at the moment.

His inability to retain quality coaches is yet another reason why I'm counting the days until we have a new HC. That co-DC shenanigan was a big backfire, and the sign of someone who lacks conviction.
It never works.

But it's part of the Sean Payton coaching tree, which is poor on staff management.

You knew it would be a disaster when Payton brought in Allen to be the minder of Rob Ryan and look over his shoulder. You knew that would de-motivate Rob Ryan and it was juts a matter of time until he was gone. Sort of similar to how Payton used Joe Vitt as his spy/snitch in the room with Gregg Williams.

Same deal. clueless.

You knew that would push everyone else out.

It's all over, and really the problem is bigger. Loomis, nor anyone else is managing it from above or providing leadership.

It's all adrift.

Allen as a weak leader maybe just exposes Loomis, because I think he always just took a back seat to his head coach on being the spokesperson and the big decisions/wish list on personnel. Loomis makes it happen moneywise. Doesn't seem to be adding much else these days other than cheerleader.

That isn't exactly fair or accurate.

losing Aaron Glenn, Ryan Nielsen, and Kris Richard

Aaron Glen left because Dan Campbell made him DC.
Ryan Nielsen left to become DC in Atlanta
Kris Richard isn't even coaching this year. No reason given.

So, 2 left because they were made DC, and the other guy isn't even coaching in the NFL.

Let's face it, most of what DA did right was on defense. Imperfect perhaps, but the D is not the reason we can't win the division. If the offense could function, the D would be fine.

AG left after the 2020 season with Dan Campbell.
He still reported to DA, but I'll give you that one. I'm more upset about the mishandling of Nielsen/Richard, not committing to either being a full DC and then having both leave.

If/when DA is extracted from office, it would have been nice to have a DC worth keeping around. I don't think Joe Woods is that guy.
