Lest ye forget, another DA bungle: losing Aaron Glenn, Ryan Nielsen, and Kris Richard (1 Viewer)

In my opinion, with the exception of Neilson, the replacements are much better. Also, when it comes to defense I actually trust Allen completely.
That's why I say don't be surprised if the only coaching moves at the end of the year is on offense.

I remember Triplett & Underhill last season pointing out that when Payton was here, during practice you could clearly see him handling the offense while DA handled the defense. Last year, right from the start DA was running back and forth from the offense, to the defense & even to special teams. Coach Dan pointed out that DA was handling defense only earlier this year, but the offense was so off track he felt he had to get involved, and it's taken his focus off the D--which has become progressively worse as the year has dragged on.

He could have given Nielsen full reign over the defense, fired Carmichael & hired someone new. Instead we get what we have---a poorly coached team with a head coach trying to be all things and succeeding at none.

Yeah but he could have fixed it, since he allowed the other to walk away. It was more of he wanted "his guy", which is very typical among coaches.

This was discussed when it all went down. Neilson wanted our DEs to bulk up, which potentially was causing some of their injuries. Richard had a difference of opinion for DB play. If the offense was doing it's job, the defense would be a lot better right now like it was earlier in the season. Also, look at Richard's history, he starts out hot then fizzles out. Dude ain't even coaching right now.

That's the first time i'm hearing about that. Unfortunately those same DEs continued to get injured.

It wasn't lateral. Nielsen was given DC play calling duties. Some thing he would not get here, because DA calls the defensive plays. That's why he left.
This makes sense.

Coaches of Super Bowl teams tend to assemble a great team of coaches. Ours is a bunch of left overs the rejects no one else would employ.

What I blame DA for is hiring Marrone. Our Oline has regressed leaps and bounds with the guy Saban fired after ONE yr.

Come on man! What you talking about. Doug has been saddled w/ a QB that hangs on to the ball for way to long, a bust at (Penning) LT, Ruiz's extended contract for a guy who wouldn't start on just about any other team, Ram w/ a bad knee, and an over the hill guard in Pete. The rest are a collection of misfit toys Garcia, Hurst, Young etc. We haven't regressed, we haven't been good since Armstead left!

Blaming Doug is just silly. There was no expectation that Ala was going to keep a former 2 time NFL coach as there DL coach anyway. There is many reasons why people leave Sabans staff, and many leave early and often.

Perhaps if DA and Loomis would have listened to Doug about who should start at LT, we would not be in this mess. But, Penning wasn't Doug's call.
