Let's talk Arizona Cardinals (1 Viewer)

Mental. Floyd is a proven commodity, Willie Snead hasn't appeared in an NFL game yet.

I'll take my roll of the dice on this one, as I have very high hopes for Snead (and Colman as well),
But your logic definitely may hold

I think they're an ideal first week opponent. Good enough to give a challenge without being incredibly difficult.

With this team's best years coinciding with fast starts, if we win going away, it'll be a great sign for things to come.

I agree with the last part - if we won this game it would be a clear sign that the pre-season WAS indeed a fluke. But that's because I disagree with the first part, this IS an incredibly difficult opener. They were great last year before Palmer went down, now he's back in a home opener and the expectations are high in Arizona.

They have every intention of blowing us out of the building. Tough tough game to win. We have to be perfect, and make plays in all 3 phases because they certainly will.

I know n understand why folk were/are concerned about our lack of a 4 man passrush. We all saw very little of one during preseason. But I also noticed we didn't blitz much either.

As good as Palmer is as a passer, IIRC, he is not mobile. And they do have some problems on their O line. So in obvious passing situations I first look for RR n DA to have Hicks n Williams inside to collapse the pocket n stay in Palmers grill, with Cam n Kikaha off the edges. Next, I think theyll move players around looking to exploit some individual matches they feel they can win, and finally, install juus a few stunts n blitzes to keep KP and his o line off balance.

Jus a few optimistic thoughts!

In reality, I have NO IDEA wat to expect from our passrush. But if Zona looks at our preseason tape on D, neither will THEY! :hihi:

First game comes down usually to defense and opportunistic offense as offensive timing isn't usually down yet. This hurts us more than it does Arizona. However, their defense is going up against the new offensive line which I believe with the addition of Unger and the now healthy Evans should be just about dominant. I'd take Brees in a ragged offensive showing rather than Palmer in that case. Saints should win based on offensive line and Brees but not by much.

As long as the defense gets a few stops we'll be fine. However, our defense is the type of defense to make that pedestrian offense look all pro.

They lost a lot from what was a pretty good front 7 last year. Dan Williams and Dockett from the line. Dansby and Daryl Williams from the LB's. Weatherspoon is good, but not great. I think their LB"s look weak. Their secondary is nice, I like those 3 safeties a lot.

99% sure they will be without Floyd. He had surgery on 3 fingers.

I wouldn't trade our group for their group. Cooks' ceiling is so much higher than anyone they have. Fitz and Colston are probably the same guy at this point.

When the schedule came out this appeared to be a tough game. As the rosters have come together I've gotten more and more excited about this game.

This is a perfect confidence builder if we go in and handle business.

There's a distinct advantage for the Saints on both sides of the line of scrimmage. We should dominate them in the trenches.

I see the Saints winning by 2 scores. 11-14 point win.

We are running the ball. The key to success in a 34 is a good nose tackle, and the Cards have 2 rookies rotating at Nose. I think that if our interior does better than barely scrape by we should dominate in the middle, their linebackers will overemphasis helping the middle and we will blow up the perimeter.

This Cardinals defense isn't the same one we have seen the last few years, the DC from the last few years has gone off to coach the Jets, so we really don't know what type of defense they will have this year. That can be a good thing, or it could be a scary thing. I am not sure Ungers past experience against them will be an advantage as he has as much experience against this defense as Kelemete.

The Cards we unit is every bit as good as ours, if not better. The issue will be Palmer. When he was healthy, they were dangerous, when he went down they weren't as effective but they were every bit a threat. Going off last year Brown>Cooks, and they are counting on him to make the next leap, like we are with Cooks. Fitz & Floyd > #12 & Snead...for now.

The Cards aren't great but I think they have a solid HC which helps them stay balanced. If we don't turn the ball I like our chances.

i only worry about the secondary since john brown is making a little noise at WR especially as a deep threat. I want to see us get good pressure on Palmer, he looks good if he has time. Didn't watch their preseason games so I have no idea how he looks coming off injury. Ellington was extremely average last year running.

Offensively, I love our matchups. I was always a Patrick Peterson fan since he went to LSU, but he has been looking very "mortal" lately. I think Cooks speed and agility will give him trouble.

Very winnable road game. Our offense will put up points just need our defense to show up
extremely average... Never heard that one. But I like it!!! Lol.

My thoughts on the Cardinals from another thread

The Cardinals lost Dan Williams,James Farrior, and Darnell Dockett. Darryl Washington is still Suspended,Sean Weatherspoon was hurt all of training camp, Kevin Minter is a ? Mark as Farriors replacement. Their run defense is going to naturally suffer

In other words this should be a run heavy gameplan or at least run oriented with the backs being used out of the backfield as pass catchers via check downs as their secondary is still ferocious and more talented than our WR corps as a whole.

On the reverse side their online isnt particularly a strength right now so we SHOULD be able to get pressure when possible. The key will be shutting down their run game because Arian's likes to take shots down field and the PA will become that much deadlier against a young LB corp that can be fooled.

Well also need to tackle well. Their WRs and RBs ability to get Yac will test our ability to get guys on the ground. Palmer still has an arm so hell zip some balls into tight spaces. With that will come catches on well covered balls, but it should also yeild an Int or two because well the odds say so.
.

This game will come down to whether or not the defense can pressure Palmer. If they can't crack that weak offensive line it's gonna be a long season.
Also, Brees have to avoid the costly turnover. I suspect a close game if the Saints bring their A game.

Another thought is that their Nickel D is much more versatile and better against the run than their base D and its because of how they use last years 1st round SS,Buchanon. So I'm thinking one package we should utilize is our Jumbo Set Package with Peat as an Extra Blocker to maul them in the run game AND set up a few PA shots in the process.

Running against their Nickel set could prove futile because they have better speed in their sub packages. Passing against it could yeild results though because I like Coleman/Colston in the slot Vs any of their Nickel DBs due to size advantage
