Loomis’s inability (63 Viewers)

I can’t think of an important decision that Loomis has got right in the past 3 years.

I guess Lattimore trade was a good move but only because the team has been eroded so badly around him that he’s useless to us right now.

I've seen quite a few mocks where we take a CB in the first which is mind boggling to me. Can you imagine this board, if we traded Lattimore who helps his team get to the NFC Championship (maybe even win it and go to the Superbowl) then they draft aa CB #9, and that CB doesn't even end up being a shut down corner?

Why is it something I can see happening with Loomis?

The truth about Loomis is as unlikeable as he can be for the fans in this :

He has always done the bidding of the Head Coach.
He did what Sean wanted.

Hendrickson , Baun , CJGJ was Dennis Allen misevaluating the first 2 guys and not able to control CJ

Loomis isn’t drafting dudes. He’s always been more of a President that football GM.

He developed an ego and a rift w SP. But the personnel decisions , cap etc has largely been lobbied for by the Head Coach.

Hendrickson left after 2020
Payton was still HC then

This is true. Which means he won’t meddle, but he is also of no help.
Not exactly the type of GM that wins consistently.

And DA was the Defensive Coordinator.

DA never endorsed paying Hendrickson. He barely saw the field for us and even when he did finally play and produce DA gave others credit for enabling that success.
ANYONE around the team at that time knows that to be true.

When things are going well, the scheme gets the credit.

When things are going poorly, the lack of talent gets the blame.

It’s why some guys like McCarthy like him a lot.

He trusted DA and enabled the stuff he wanted. That didn’t work out. It did work out for most of the SP era tho.

FWIW, not that Max needs his credibility confirmed, but Underhill has said the same things. DA thought that Hendrickson was just an effort guy and didn't have the skills to consistently get sacks.

It really makes me wonder how much of our recent trouble in the draft was due to DA wanting the wrong guys at positions other than DB.

Your original post says “he has always done the bidding of the head coach” - you then named Trey H as the first victim of a head coach not wanting a guy who has had success elsewhere

This could have been a list of guys who walked under DA (and that is a mighty list loaded with talent that DA let out the door) but Sean Payton was the head coach in 2020 when Trey Hendrickson walked

The “head coach is responsible for everything” crowd sure is selective

That’s a good question. In the more modern drafts they’ve drafted a lot of “measurables” type players especially on Defense which is how you end up w Davenport , Turner , Foskey , Bressee to name a few.

They need to really hit on at least 2 of the next 3 drafts.

A team can’t pay a QB $50M and whiff on multiple drafts and then misevaluate guys in your own building (Baun , Hendrickson etc ) while paying guys like Cam , Tyrann , Demario

Nobody can survive that.

Ok take Hendrickson off the list. I will go back and re-read what I wrote word for word to get a literal interpretation and edit if it doesn’t fit.

Sean had the offense. I’m assuming he and Loomis listened to and trusted DA’s council on defensive personnel. So that means Sean ultimately advised Loomis to not pay up for Trey.

Is that good for you ? Or do you need further translation to get the point ?

Why people ignore this fact is beyond me. Its incredibly annoying
