Loomis’s inability (1 Viewer)

The truth about Loomis is as unlikeable as he can be for the fans in this :

He has always done the bidding of the Head Coach.
He did what Sean wanted.

Hendrickson , Baun , CJGJ was Dennis Allen misevaluating the first 2 guys and not able to control CJ

Loomis isn’t drafting dudes. He’s always been more of a President that football GM.

He developed an ego and a rift w SP. But the personnel decisions , cap etc has largely been lobbied for by the Head Coach.
And for these reasons, the Saints are an attractive job for a young coach.

To keep talent is beyond dispute. Why he hasn’t been dismissed is a mystery. It will not get better.
Because he lets his coaches dictate their rosters. Hendrickson and Baun are gone because Sean Payton and Dennis Allen felt like the Saints had better options. Baun only signed a one year deal with Philadelphia so let's not act like Philadelphia thought they had the second coming of Sam Mills or Mike Singletary. Credit to Fangio for moving him inside.

I don’t believe that Loomis strictly does as the head coach says. I believe it’s always been a collaborative effort where compromise exists.

I find it hard to believe that during Payton’s entire tenure the only QB that he wanted to draft high was Patrick Mahomes. I’m purely speculating, but it’s quite odd that he never spent a first or second round pick on a QB with the Saints, but immediately drafts one in the first round with Denver.

Ok take Hendrickson off the list. I will go back and re-read what I wrote word for word to get a literal interpretation and edit if it doesn’t fit.

Sean had the offense. I’m assuming he and Loomis listened to and trusted DA’s council on defensive personnel. So that means Sean ultimately advised Loomis to not pay up for Trey.

Is that good for you ? Or do you need further translation to get the point ?
They paid Marcus Williams that offseason, if I remember right. The Covid year/salary cap drop adversely impacted the one draft class we could ill-afford (literally) it to happen.

I also remember the consensus being that Hendrickson couldn’t/wouldn’t duplicate the success he had in a contract year, whereas Williams’ growth was seen as more linear/scalable. That’s compounded with the ‘21 draft strategy to take Payton Turner with their R1 pick, hoping to get that kind of production on a rookie deal vs. a huge payday. There was a number the FO set, Hendrickson wanted more, the notoriously-cheap Bengals met his number, they later had to sell naming rights to the stadium to ensure assets to pay Burrow, and they might lose a star in Higgins along the way. All that, and the Bengals aren’t any better than the Saints for having him, 2021 playoffs aside.

Getting back to the Saints, I don’t think it was a hard-no situation for retaining Trey. He’s thriving in a defense that lets him, and he’s worked hard to maintain his game. He’s still a guy who got out of the building while Sean Payton was the head coach. Unless stepping down after 2021 concluded was pre-determined on, like, a three-year arc, I struggle to classify it as a failing of Dennis Allen. Mickey Loomis makes the money work for what the head coach wants, in the end.

Because we had Drew Brees!!!

The problem is Loomis picked DA and then did his bidding. If he picks another bad HC and does his bidding, we'll be going nowhere all over again.

While I’d love to see fresh blood…. I’m not bagging on him, just answering why he’s never leaving, he’s practically part owner lol.

Benson
Lauscha
Loomis.

I don't think Loomis will ever be fired, but if he can take another role in the organization and until he puts his pride aside and admits the team needs a change with a new GM then we will be riding the same carousel.

He didn't do the bidding of Sean Payton, he did what a good GM does, he supported him. He gave him what he said he needed to win. And whe Payton realized he couldn't win without Brees he took his ball and went home. You want to get back to being a winning team, find the next Brees

If Payton really wanted Mahomes why didn't he move up

A HC doesn't keep restructuring players contracts that put the Saints in this predicament. He also hired DA and approved the Carr signing. He's the GM and it's his responsibility to ensure the Saints organization is successful. Loomis is the one that needs to be held accountable.

We want the man running the show to be unable to evaluate football and put all his faith in Dennis Allen. We should give him a pass.................. he deserves a chance to get it

right...............................................................................

Exactly. There is a Director of Pro Personnel and Director of College Scouting both heavily involved, and now we also have Ziegler and Mueller as a part of the process.

It has always been a collaborative effort, with Mickey mostly just being the tiebreaker if all the men in the room, including himself, can’t agree on a move.

Man I know you want Loomis fired but…what is the goal here? It’s not like if you get everyone on your side he’s going to actually suddenly get fired. 😂

That all I’m hoping for. Just moved up into another position, fresh blood everywhere else.

Not laughing at you with that post, just laughing at how ridiculously difficult that will be.
