Loomis’s inability (70 Viewers)

To be part of the problem also leave the door open to being the key to the solution

I mean, what turned Washington around is drafting JD5 and then Quinn brought in a bunch of vets he liked to build a better team culture. I'm not sure the GM had a lot to do with that other than drafting JD5 which I thought was a no brainer since I thought he was by far the best QB in that draft.

Anway, I want Loomis to move on and I want a new young GM, but the truth is that even if you go get a guy from one of the top organizations for the last 5 or 10 years, there is still no guarantee that he's going to be any good, much less better than Loomis. He'll certainly be different, but maybe not better.
It may seem like a given now, but there was a debate on who was better: Maye or Daniels. Some people wanted Maye on the Commanders's board. I've said it in numerous posts: I do not think Mick is going anywhere, but I will chime in if someone starts a thread about Mick. We are in bad shape right now, from top to bottom. I'm a realist, and most people on this board are not.

I mean, everyone thinks they are a realist until proven otherwise. But, one of the great things about football is that they play the games and at the end of the season, you find out who were the realists, optimists, and pessimists.

From my point of view, Loomis needs to fix the drafting process so we draft better and he needs to get the cap under better control. But, I do think we have a mediocre roster right now that with the right draft picks over the next year or two and the right coach can be a regular playoff team. I really think the major issue with this team was DA, and Loomis certainly gets blame for hiring him and keeping him to long, but the roster is better than it showed under DA. But, maybe it will turn out that I'm just a misguided optimist and you are the realist.

I think Loomis should move on and that he has many issues, but he isn't moving on for at least a few years. And despite that, I still think we can be back to being a playoff team in a couple years if we make the right hire at HC. Maybe I'm not being realistic, but I'd rather try to enjoy the ride and get disappointed in the end than hate the ride and be disappointed in the end.

Draft well, draft well, draft well. I don’t care who the GM is; just draft well.

Without DA in the picture, maybe we can improve the defense. Of course, that means we need a head coach and a defensive coordinator. I’m losing patience with the slowness of the hiring process, but that could be the caffeine. 😳

I don't think that some of you guys understand Mickey Loomis's role as GM. Mickey is the General Manager think about what that says. He manages everyone in the building essentially. He's not the player personnel guy! Again he let's the coaches make those decisions. Is he responsible for their poor decisions ? I guess ultimately, but he doesn't cut anyone. He doesn't keep anyone when it comes to players. That's the coaches job! SO i really think everyone is giving Mickey a lot of grief for the wrong reasons. Is he completely perfect NO but i think he's better than most GM's in the business.........Especially when it comes to cap management. Think about it. The one main thing you can't complain about is our spending. A lot of teams don't even come close to reaching the salary cap. We are NOT CHEAP when it comes to spending. For the record i think all the players contracts are crazy!

Agreed on all counts. Not every draft has to be 2017 good but hit rates on top picks as position group leaders and later picks as quality contributors is key. Things go wrong for any number of reasons but they’ve gotta not try to outsmart the process in the process.

One of the top choices is still coaching in the playoffs. If it was February 23rd with no coach that’d be cause for concern. This could have been over in days if they wanted a guy from a non-playoff team very badly but the delay in this case is a good thing.

This is why you don't go out in public and make ridiculous comments and defend a career loser, even after players post their own version of "o happy day" on social media the day after the career loser was fired. According to Cam Jordan, he wanted out of New Orleans after the Carolina loss(reported on the Ross Jackson pod today).

Loomis lost a ton of fan support in the last year in a half or so. It was around November of '23 when fans started really paying attention to Loomis on the WWL coaches show and the endpresser of '23 was the cherry on top of a poo frosted cake. The only way he wins this back is if they have a killer draft and hires the right coach and has this cap ready to go in '26.

This is an odd statement on a fan forum. All we can do is look at different people's preferences and predictions and see who was wrong, right,. etc.
Posters were ready to talk smack after we won a couple of games. I never liked hiring DA; you can go back four years to when he was hired to see my initial thoughts on him.
We hired a losing coach, which was a dumb decision by Mick that set us back years. I was wrong about Peterson with the Jags, and I thought Campbell was all rah-rah in Detroit, so I have no problem admitting when I'm wrong.
If we're not in the playoffs in two years, we hired the wrong coach again. Just because Mick is not expected to be fired doesn't mean the fans cannot express their frustration with his recent history of incompetent decisions. I'm not enjoying a losing ride. I didn't do that in high school when I worked in the dome selling "Dove bars" and cared more about my free Domino's voucher than who won because we weren't going beat the Niners or Rams, and I'm not going to do that as a middle-aged man.

Edit: the first quote was unintended.
