IGN: 9 OUT OF 10

Madden NFL 13 does something the Madden franchise hasn't done in years: it makes me want to keep playing. Yes, the commentators will repeat themselves and funky animations are going to pop up, but the game as a whole is so good. The TV presentation, the refined gameplay, the more lifelike physics -- it all adds up to Madden NFL 13 being something truly special.

Madden NFL 13 Review - IGN

I am still debating whether I should get this game or not. I played the demo and it feels pretty smooth but I am still on the fence about it. I don't know if I want to shell out 60 bucks for it or wait about a week and get a used one for the half the price. :idunno:

good luck trying to get madden 13 for Half price after about a week used, Madden 12 is still about 30 bucks used

I played the early release last night. You can defiantly tell the difference from this madden and last maddens. Some of the plays look realistic as can be. The computer is much tougher on all pro and cornerbacks actually cover wide receivers. The connected careers thing is kind of confusing because it is so immersive. The biggest bummer is Payton is not in the game!

No Madden for me this year. I cancelled my pre-order with Amazon. Why? The features that I use in Madden are all gone. Imported draft classes? Gone. Custom rosters? Gone Custom playbooks? Gone. Multi user franchises on the same console? Gone. Coach mode? Gone. CPU vs CPU games? Gone. Ability to choose CPU's uniforms? Gone. There are too many features removed this year that were in previous versions. I will stink with Madden 12.

I'm a little torn. I got the early release and have already pre-paid for the game.

The gameplay so far is fine. I like the improvements and no complaints here. I always reserve my final judgement here until I get more into the game. For instance, right now I'm throwing 4 picks a game. As I get used to it that will change.

What I don't like and is almost a gamebreaker for me is the lack of formation subs. NCAA is perfect where you can do this in a sperate menu outside of the game. In Madden, you have to do it during the game. Last year I did the subs for the offense in a preseason game. I just took the delay of game penalties until I got it right. Then those changes lasted the whole season...even into the next season. I did it this year and they reset for the next game.

As a Saints fan this is a big deal. I want to start PT as my main back. Then I sub in Sproles for passing formations and Ingram in big formations. They all get decent action and I know what to expect.

This year we have some good defensive depth on the line with Gallete and Wilson...both rated in the mid to high 70s and just below Jordan and both can get upfield quickly. I would love to go to a Nickel and Dime Dline of Gallete and Wilson at the ends with Smith and Ellis inside. And also move around some linebackers in some formations.

I know it's minor for most people...but this is a big reason why I'll probably stick mostly to NCAA.

I also love Franchise. This year there's a lot to it...maybe even too much. But I haven't played enough to grasp this yet. I love that players' ratings change based on scheme. I'm not too sure about the role playing type of system where I bump up their attributes based on stats. I don't want to manage this at all.

The reason you are torn is the exact same reason I am torn also. I also think there there are still some issues with the AI like linebackers covering wide receivers step for step constantly. I read that if you bump the fatigue slider up to 75 you see more substitutions but not the same as able to create packages. Might be a deal breaker for me.

Another thing that I'm not happy about is the lack of ability to edit rosters and take those into a franchise. I have my own opinions on players (especially Saints) and like to bump people up or down. I can mostly live with this even though I'm not happy.

Another thing this impacts is another exercise I like to do...what if Team X did this? For example, I want to rebuild a bad team and the Colts fit the bill. Good young QB and most other good players are old. RGIII has very similar attributes to Luck, except a much better runner and his deep accuracy is much better. What if the Colts took RGII? That's the dynasty I want to play.

Trades are tougher and that's good...to an extent. I fooled around with trying to get Mike Wallace for the Saints. Made some fair offers and no deal. Made some stretch offers and no deal. Then I offered Brees and 2 first rounders just to see...no deal. I don't know that there's a team in the history of the league that wouldn't take Drew and a couple firsts for any player. Even if you don't need Drew you can spin that for, oh, about a dozen more first rounders.

Maybe I'll take a shot at Luck, Freeney and Mathis for RGIII. I plan on spinning those guys off anyway for a complete rebuild.

I don't want to sound too down. I'm really liking the other improvements to gameplay. It feels like a much better game. I've got some vacation this week and I hope to dive into it. My biggest gripe really is just that I can't play with the Saints the way I want to. So my Madden experience will start with the Colts and a full rebuild.

TAKE NOTE BEFORE BUYING

this game does not a have fantasy draft for franchise mode any longer. Your stuck with the normal rosters.

I just bought it, franchise mode is replaced with career mode, and you have to select head coach career. Overrall, its way more defined and much better. Scheme, coaching up players etc is awesome. However, fantasy draft is what gave this game its lasting appeal to me, and it no longer exist.

If I had known that, I wouldn't have bought the game. It's so popular, and has been in the game every year for a long time that I thought it was a given to exist this year also. Lol did I know....

Still overall a much better madden game, but without the fantasy draft in career mode, its just not worth the money to me as I will likely only play it a few times.
