Marcus Maye signed. (2 Viewers)

I was a big Marcus Williams fan but replacing him for around $5 million a year less with a guy that is a good single high FS but can also play in a two deep set and play closer to the line is a great consolation. $14 million per year seemed just a bit much for Williams. He's a great single high FS, but by the nature of what his was asked to do based on his skill set he was never going to have as much impact as a guy that can play closer to the line. Going to be interesting to see how DA mixes up the coverage looks with a more versatile FS.

Maye is more of an enforcer on the back end than Williams was and may benefit from being in more talented secondary. He's coming off an injury so is significantly less than what he potentialy would have cost.

I love it, i love it, i love it.

Just finding this thread, please excuse me skipping the next 7 pages after your post lol.

You mentioned in another thread that as great as MW was, he gave us nothing in man coverage and so we couldn't really every truly send 0 blitzes. Does Maye solve this? I remember he played at an All-Pro level once upon a time.

If he can give us even 75% of the deep field dominance that MW gave then we shouldn't see too many issues with the defense picking up where they left off.

I love this signing. Over the past few years while defending Marcus Williams I've looked at several lists to see how Williams is viewed. And just about every list I saw had Marcus Maye on it. It seems like he's in that same category of Safety who isn't a flashy play making star but he's pretty consistent.

The injury is a concern but since it happened so early in the season last year he should be ready to rock. I'm hoping this is the latest under the radar home run Loomis signing.
