Matt Mascona Nails It Again! (1 Viewer)

I’m not on the get rid of DC4 train. I’ve seen DC4 do some things at the NFL level that shows he belongs. Our system is craptastic. I don’t think any QB would do well running these plays. This is the same nonsense that was happening before DC4 got here. I’m going with the common denominator

Count me in the number to let him loose. Mascona said everything that I believe. That and when Jameis came in the game on Sunday, the team just reacted differently. Like a sigh of relief. I don't think that Carr has that "IT" factor to be a leader of a team. Not saying Jameis does either but he does bring the fun factor. Carr is not a fun player. Like Mascona said, we can use the Raiders were a terrible franchise excuse but so were the Saints yet Brees came in a single handily changed the culture.

At this point, Carr will only be known for his temper tantrum and yelling at Olave on national TV.

Matt went a tad overboard, though radio talk-shows are entertainment.

However, he is right--and has been right. Forget about the "emperor of empty yards" bit. He is absolutely right that the Saints gave a huge contract to a mediocre at best quarterback who is now in his 30s and that we are saddled with him for the next two years are so.

If Mickey Loomis had been hired by the team in 2018, did not have a personal relationship with Gayle Benson, and were judged solely on what he has done as general manager over the past six years--that is a fair sample size--would he have a job today?

I’ve not liked his attitude on the field, or how he throws the ball away in Olave’s direction repeatedly. The kid is struggling, why put your finger in the wound?
I agree that the team seemed looser with Winston, and I keep thinking of JT’s armchair quarterbacking: our receivers are probably getting open and not getting the ball. Couple that with Carr’s attitude and I’m sure the locker room isn’t in great shape. All that being said, our QB could be the love child of Marino and Brady and we would be stuck in the mud with this coaching staff.

If another staff does come in, I hope they evaluate what we have and move accordingly. Look at the Broncos: Russel Wilson’s contract is an albatross so they tried to work with him this year (no other real chance). They have a bit of an out after this year (with a ton of dead cap still) but they’ll evaluate and see what nets them the most competitive team next year.

A few things:
I’ll use Matt Stafford as an example. His tenure in Detroit, was essentially the same as Carr’s with the Raiders. Hollow stats and almost no playoffs for the both of them. We have seen many QBs ultimately thrive, when placed in the right system.
I’ve read something where Jameis spends extra time with our receivers. So, if that’s the case, then we have some serious problems, mores so than we know.
I believe DC4 has an “IT” factor to lead a team. Our team (as a whole) needs a leader right now. We don’t have one. Have to get to the root of the problems.
Look at SP and what he’s doing with Russ. All reports said the players hated Russ last year for many reasons on top of his play. SP comes in, drops a hammer, and is turning things around. Never underestimate coaching. It matters

I agree. I am withholding judgment until we have a competent HC and OC.

try to imagine this. what if our D held the other team scoreless thru three quarters like they are capable of. Instead it was over at half. Now we’re one dimensional, and go figure the Qb gets injured. I don’t see how Carr is the issue here. JW got us back into the game on his own. He couldn’t finish. But he got us back into it. Had our D did their EFFFFFING JOB. The points that JW did score should’ve won is the game!!!. Matt also said in that piece that Josh Allen is the answer. The guy leading the league in interceptions. With that said, to satisfy this fan base, we have to trade up and get a QB this year. Too bad Deions son and Ewers are playing another season. But I think Jayden D and or Jordan Travis one of them will be available when we pick. GET ONE!

I don't watch AFR stuff, some of the most lowbrow, lazy, budget Stephen A Smith crap I've seen, even for local/team-focused content. Which is saying something.

Kind of ironic that he calls Carr (who's played with a historically awful Raiders team his entire career, meanwhile Brees was gifted a HoF head coach in his prime.) the 'empty yards emperor' when he watched Brees for twenty years. Brees is literally the emperor of empty yards. All of Brady's stats with just a single of his rings. That isn't to disrespect Brees and his legacy here at all, it's just to make a point of how dumb the video is.

As for Carr himself, it's 100% unfair to call him anything until there's a competent set of coaches in the locker room. Or at least an OC.

Weekly reminder: Matt Mascona is an LSU fan who maybe/possibly/sometimes watches the Saints on television. There are many like him in this forum, but his opinions are not representative of all Saints fans.

If you want real Saints takes, listen to Ross Jackson at Locked on Saints, the guys over at Saints Happy Hour podcast, and Nick Underhill and co with New Orleans Football. Those are actual Saints fans with sources inside the building at Airline.

That emperor of empty yards bit was a corny as anything I have seen. That his tweet is supposedly "taking" off is an indictment to anyone who shared it.

Take Brees's name out of your mouth! Don't diminish Drew's accomplishments to make a point about Carr. Drew helmed a top five offense year in and year out, nothing "empty" about that. They scored mountains of points to go along with those yards and the lack of rings was purely due to horrendous defenses (like that even needs to be restated).

That said, I agree with you and think Moscanna's take is lame. Put Carr behind an average offensive line and pair him with just an average play caller and things would look different.

Just because he covers LSU in Baton Rouge doesn't mean he's not a fan. It's okay to dislike the guy, but he's allowed to have an opinion on the team just like everyone else on this forum. And yes, he does watch the games while wearing a Demario Davis "Man of God" headband.
