Matt Mascona Nails It Again! (4 Viewers)

Underhill is pure propaganda, and I say that as a person who likes and subs to NOF. As others have said, they have to carry the water else get cut off. He’s just trying to make money, I get it.
I find it hilarious that as soon as Triplett left ESPN for NoF, he stopped going on Eric Ashers radio show. I know Underhill has never gone on his show. Asher calls out media members who appear too cozy with the team, its funny to watch it all.

I’m unfamiliar with Eric’s show, I’ll check that out. And I find Mike T’s takes to be a little less sunshine pumping than Nick’s.

Weekly reminder: Matt Mascona is an LSU fan who maybe/possibly/sometimes watches the Saints on television. There are many like him in this forum, but his opinions are not representative of all Saints fans.

If you want real Saints takes, listen to Ross Jackson at Locked on Saints, the guys over at Saints Happy Hour podcast, and Nick Underhill and co with New Orleans Football. Those are actual Saints fans with sources inside the building at Airline.

That emperor of empty yards bit was a corny as anything I have seen. That his tweet is supposedly "taking" off is an indictment to anyone who shared it.
It didnt take! That’s a lie. The morning before that, he said he came up with the idea. So how can somthing “take”. In 4 hours. It’s a lie. You all have been had. BAD. LOLOL When the Saints do badly, negative vids get clicks. The same goes for when they do well. if youre a content creator wouldn’t it be prudent to be both? A neg douche, and a sunshine pumper? You all have been HAD. BAD! LOL.

By the way, DC contract is a bargain In comparison, you’ve been lied to. And they don’t select terrible QBs to the pro bowl 4 times. Get real, develop an opinion based on the entire story. Not some dudes negative take.

I don't watch AFR stuff, some of the most lowbrow, lazy, budget Stephen A Smith crap I've seen, even for local/team-focused content. Which is saying something.

Kind of ironic that he calls Carr (who's played with a historically awful Raiders team his entire career, meanwhile Brees was gifted a HoF head coach in his prime.) the 'empty yards emperor' when he watched Brees for twenty years. Brees is literally the emperor of empty yards. All of Brady's stats with just a single of his rings. That isn't to disrespect Brees and his legacy here at all, it's just to make a point of how dumb the video is.

As for Carr himself, it's 100% unfair to call him anything until there's a competent set of coaches in the locker room. Or at least an OC.
The difference is that Brees led high scoring offenses. Carr gets yardage and then sucks in the red zone. He’s the Julio Jones of QBs. Unfortunately, you score by putting the ball in the endzone, and not getting into the red zone. THAT’S the difference.

There are a plethora of differences, too many to list. One QB is a first ballot HOF’er who’s one of the greatest to ever play the game, the other is not in the same stratosphere. It’s truly an insult to Drew to be compared to Derek Carr in any way.

Accessibility ain't always the best thing (as last season and this offseason has shown), and I'll for sure listen to AFR before Ralph and Andrew over at Saint's Happy Hour. Those Twitter takes have me wondering sometimes...lol.
Ralph tries to keep it light, really they all do. Not sure you want them as a news source, they are more entertainment than anything . They do have sources inside the building. Basically four fairly knowledgeable guys dinking and talking about the Saints.

They are strictly Saints unlike Mascona.

And I do not want to question the motivation of others because I disagree with their opinions. But of the major media figures covering the team, it seems that Underhill has been the most supportive of what the organization has been doing and of those running the organization, whereas I do find balance with Triplett. And those on the radio know they must be interesting to be successful--that is, entertain. Moscona, Asher, Gus Kattengell all fall in that category. It is the nature of the medium.

But Moscona, though he covers LSU and the SEC first, spends much time on the Saints and the NFL, constantly says he is a life-long Saints fan, wants to see the team do well, and is knowledgeable. And regarding the Saints, I find that he has been right about the big issues facing the franchise. I think he is right about Derek Carr, about Pete Carmichael, about Dennis Allen, and about the current direction of the organization.

I don't care about team access--in fact, it can adversely affect what one says and writes. In fact, I would rather have a confidential source on the Atlanta Falcons or Green Bay Packers staff providing me with opinions on the Saints rather than someone employed by the Saints organization, who by nature of his employment will have an agenda.

In the day, someone who had strong, though respectfully stated, opinions was Joel Buchsbaum. But he had sources throughout the entire league--Bill Belichick used to call him for information.

But I don't care who in the media goes to practice and training camp unless I am looking for daily reports. In fact, I have learned to discount much of the positive news coming out of camp in early August. Come September, I can watch the games like everyone else. I may be totally unqualified to assess on a play who blew coverage in the secondary and whether a receiver ran the wrong route. But I do think that I am capable of forming an opinion on whether a quarterback is good, whether a head coach should keep his job, whether an offensive coordinator is capable, and whether a general manager is skillfully using or blowing away draft capital.

It's certainly massive in comparison to, say, Baker Mayfield's contract... 👀
So, what? His deal isn't bad, it gives us an out after 2025. Regardless of how you feel about his play, we'll still need him if we draft a young QB to continue bridging the gap. The deal made sense in January, it still makes sense now, and it makes sense for the future.

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

If Carr's ceiling for us is bridge QB (and that's how it's looking so far) then he shouldn't have been given high-mid starter money. That's poor value. Much as I hate to say it, the Bucs have managed to field a comparatively competitive team with a far cheaper "bridge" QB who's outplaying our "franchise" guy by a fair margin, and as a result they'll have a nice clean cap going into next year. Carr's contract by comparison locks us into a holding pattern of offensive mediocrity through next year minimum, delays some much-needed cap purging, and limits our options for having a stronger roster in place for whatever young QB we draft to take the reins.

The deal made sense in January assuming you trusted this regime's ability to evaluate QBs. Considering this is the same regime whose Plan A was to give the farm for Deshaun Watson, I'd say that trust would be misplaced. And Carr's deal sure as hell doesn't make sense for the future, for the reasons stated above. His production thus far could've been had for a fraction of the cost. But here we are.

A few things:
I’ll use Matt Stafford as an example. His tenure in Detroit, was essentially the same as Carr’s with the Raiders. Hollow stats and almost no playoffs for the both of them. We have seen many QBs ultimately thrive, when placed in the right system.
I’ve read something where Jameis spends extra time with our receivers. So, if that’s the case, then we have some serious problems, mores so than we know.
I believe DC4 has an “IT” factor to lead a team. Our team (as a whole) needs a leader right now. We don’t have one. Have to get to the root of the problems.
Look at SP and what he’s doing with Russ. All reports said the players hated Russ last year for many reasons on top of his play. SP comes in, drops a hammer, and is turning things around. Never underestimate coaching. It matters
The Broncos won a close one this past weekend, but I wouldn’t say he’s turning it around there. Wilson’s age meant he wasn’t ever going to be Payton’s true-heart choice for field general anyway. The Broncos aren’t going to the playoffs and they will draft a QB next spring. If the Saints are lucky enough to still be playing in January, it’ll be because the division stinks these days.

I’m not on the get rid of DC4 train. I’ve seen DC4 do some things at the NFL level that shows he belongs. Our system is craptastic. I don’t think any QB would do well running these plays. This is the same nonsense that was happening before DC4 got here. I’m going with the common denominator
We will get a new OC and offensive staff in the offseason. Carr is a good QB, and you cant put it all on Carmichael either but that is a change that needs to be made as we are still having the same issues as last season and we have better players this year.

He wasn't given high-mid starter money. It's just not $4MM like Baker and for some reason that matters to us? It's not poor value. He was either going to be our franchise QB or he's just a guy; hence the average QB money for 3 years. Tampa has a backup plan in Trask, we do not. We're not in the same situation as Tampa. Baker is irrelevant to this conversation. That's like me saying Carr is the best deal we could've possibly done this offseason because we're not the Browns with Deshaun Watson... Doesn't even make sense to compare the two.

The deal made sense in January because we didn't have a QB... and we got one. The idea was we just need an average offense to win with our defense. And guess what? We have an above average offense that's statistically better than last year. Carr's deal doesn't make sense for the future? So, who's the magical QB that's going to take the reigns? Jameis? lul. The front office that's kept our club competitive for 20 years just forgot football because we're not 10-0. Give me a break.
