Maybe we should hire Univ of Washington’s Offensive Coordinator (1 Viewer)

Agree, Penix is best available QB and somebody will grab him early, but with two ACL injuries in college, will he hold up?
It's his legs so I don't think anyone will think twice as long as he's cleared at the combine. Kid can flat out throw.

Don't bring Bama's offensive coordinator

In OT there where 2 time outs called and a player injury which gave the OC plenty of time to draw up a play. What happens, he runs a Pete Carmichael type play which got nothing. Cost them the game

It really is amazing to see how effortless these modern offenses move the ball up and down the field. Not just in college but in general. They make it look so easy. They do things that make sense.

One of the best things about these modern offenses is how they constantly put pressure on the defense to cover the entire field. They get the ball out quick and force defenders to run and chase all game long. Defenses get gassed and you see pass catchers running wide open in space. You see more and more mental lapses as defenders have nothing left in the tank.

That's been the frustrating thing to me as a Saints fan, our guys usually don't have a lot of space on the field to create after the catch. Even when we had Drew and SP. Drew had to throw into the tightest windows I have ever seen. Our pass catchers seemed to always have a defender draped over them. The field seemed to shrink when we were on offense. Sometimes it seemed like the defense was playing with 14 guys. The offense was functioning as it was designed and we had a lot of success with it. But still, I've been jealous of the offenses that play basketball on grass while we play football on a basketball court.
The Saints' 2011 offense set records.

You made a great point about Drew throwing in tight windows but when you really break down how the offense was in Drew's prime, the verticality always opened up the underneath but also was the reason our screen game was so explosive. Something else to be said about being in a timing offense (as opposed to spacing) is Drew is probably the greatest RZ quarterback in the history of the game..lol.

Now, I'm going to say this; I'm not opposed to Washington's OC and I know who else wouldn't neither. lol

Look at Haener from 2021 to 2022 and look at Penix at Indiana and then see what he is doing in Washington.

Scheming matters...

I will be curious to see how good Penix is throwing into tighter windows. He's a good QB, but the NFL is different. Good luck to the young man. All the new QBs will struggle to a point. If Lenix goes to a team with not a great line, how I'll he do? A lot of factors

His name is Ryan Grubb. I would mind the Saints giving him a lot. He'll get of interest from programs heading into next season from other programs.

He's making $2mil/yr and already turned down Alabama once. It will be interesting to see if he gets a head coaching job.

Yep....the same Ryan Grubb that had Haener averaging over 315 yards a game in 2021 and the same one that got Penix going from averaging 221 yards a game and sub 60% completion to where he is now. See if we can get Penix, bring in Grubb, and let the youngsters duke it out over who should start...lol

Obviously the NFL is a step up, but from what I have seen from Penix, he has the accuracy to succeed in the NFL. And, obviously I'm no scout and I'm far from an expert so take this for what it's worth, but I've seen him a few times this season and watched him again last night and it looked to me like he was putting the ball into very small windows with great accuracy. Sure there were some short throws with wide open receivers but his deep ball was right where it need to be in small windows and he made a few throws over the middle including a touch down where he threaded the needle and put it into a very small window. And he has done that for the last two season, not just last night. I've always particularly found his accuracy on deep throws to be impressive.

The prior injury history is a concern, but I think he still has enough mobility to move around in the pocket to create throws on broken plays and he does a nice job throwing on the run. He can also get some yards if it's open, but he's obviously not a true running threat like Daniels.

The NFL is more about spacing now. You aren't going to find too many offenses where tight window throws are the norm (Mahomes and Lamar Jackson are at the bottom of the league in tight window throws and throwing people open in tight windows). He should be fine in the league if he can get to the right team.

Would love to see then draft Penix but his injury history is worrisome. 2 ACL injuries to his right knee and both of his surgically repaired shoulders
We have experience with guys coming off shoulder surgery. I would like him to slide, but I doubt he gets out of the top 10.
