Michael Thomas - Sports Science (2 Viewers)

What excites me is his ability to get YAC. It's been a long time since the Saints had a big WR good at getting YAC. Colston was an incredible receiver but basically only got the yardage where he caught the ball. He wasn't a big break away threat. Watching Thomas at Ohio St. he breaks arm tackles, slips defenders, creates yardage after the catch. This should bring a whole new dimension to the Saints they haven't had in years.

sounds like a Brandon Marshall type of WR

What I like about this kid is he has a very cerebral approach to the game. I read that he looks for any advantage against the DB. Even the smallest detail. Very much like a chess match. I watched one vid of him doing a lil hop step and the DB was like a deer in headlights. I think EJW posted a quote from one of the Saints WR coach , not sure if it was Morton . He said that we look for WR's that go get the ball , and catch it in traffic . He said speed is an extra bonus . Thomas is very much like Colston , may be a bit faster and quicker

Gladly take him as a sleeper in fantasy football

What I like about Michael Thomas is after he scores a TD, he runs back to his teammates for a chest bump. Not that stupid run away thing all the players do now. :covri:

I only hope he's not another Saints draft that takes 2-3 seasons to learn how to play at this level. Another bench warmer is not what we need.

There's no way he doesn't get a lot of playing time. There's no real competition past the first two or three current wide receivers (depends on how you rate Coleman).

but he redshirted a year because of his inability to pick up their offense. you really think that he will have an easier time with this playbook?

Huh. Two articles I found don't mention the playbook. More that he didn't have enough production. And he was redshirted as a sophomore.

This is now his full time job!

There is or lets say... there should be, a big diffference between the amount of time spend learning Football while being an NFL player compared to being an Colleage player.

well, from NFL.com
Michael Thomas Draft Profile

He played in 11 games as a freshman, catching just three passes (22 yards) for the Buckeyes, and then was redshirted for the 2013 season just one game in because he was struggling to learn the offense and make his grades.

from one of the articles from a link you posted
He didn’t have a great fall camp,” said wide receivers coach Zach Smith, reflecting back on why Thomas redshirted. “So, I didn’t play him in the first game, mainly because I wanted him to realize that we’re not going to go a whole season with him preparing the way he prepared, performing the way he performed in practice.

so since this is his full time job he is just going to magically be able to pick up the playbook? I certainly hope so. but being his full time job has no bearing on his ability to digest a playbook.

I could be wrong but I don't think the Saints basic playbook is very hard to learn based on how we see the same 5-6 plays over and over and over. Cooks, Snead, Moore, Henderson, Colston, Stills all came in as young players and got right to work. Meachem was the exception, not the rule.

Believe the point was, he doesn't have to go to class, he doesn't have a limit put on him on the time he can devote to football. It's logical to think that the more time one has to devote to something the easier it will be to learn it. If I had 40 hours a week to devote to playing piano, I'd probably be a pretty damn good piano player.

This thread has just about made Thomas a lock as my early camp beast. Can't wait for camp!

Picked too high to be a camp beast. Camp beasts get the Onome Ojo award for players who came out of nowhere to be the next hall of fame player to out of the NFL all in about a month.

In our glory it was a pick your poison type of situation.

it's claimed the the offense keeps on ticking despite the losses due to the yards gained.

but we don't need a team that can chip their way down field when we are losing by 14.

we need the team that makes it a mistake to go up on us 13-10 with 1:05 left in the 1st half.

cause we will probably tack 7 pts on em in that minute.

this helps the cause
