Microsoft Paid The NFL $400 Million To Use Its Tablets, But Announcers Are Calling Them iPads

Haha! Although a silly mistake, it's a pretty big one. I'd be quite upset if I were Microsoft!

I think its equivalent to calling all can drinks soda, hey, its an ipad type device

That is on Microsoft. There is plenty of space on that blue surface to put "Microsoft" or whatever it is they are calling the tablet.

They could have also given one to the broadcasters so the would be able to show the tv audience an idea of what players can see on them.

Missed opportunity for Microsoft.

Soda is a generic name; iPad is a competitor's brand name... It's the equivalent calling all Pepsi products "Cokes".

In any event, I couldn't be happier for the NFL or Microsoft.

Brand fail...

Should have called them what everybody else calls them...fake iPads. :covri: :smilielol:

(not a fan of Gates or Apple)

"Surface" seems like a rather lame name. Remember the zune? Microsoft needs to come up with some more catchy names IMHO. Still, this is indeed like confusing Pepsi with Coke. :nono:

Microsoft has to shoot a note to the NFL office (I know NFL HQ has enough issues right now)... that's a lot of money they're dropping to keep having their product called by a competitor's name

that should be a big deal for Microsoft... b/c they believed it to be a load of good advertising... but it's blowing up in their faces

When I worked at Best Buy, a vast majority of people called every mp3 player an iPod. You'd be amazed how many people refer to smartphones as a whole as iPhones. Someone not well-versed in technology will make the mistake and not even realize it. That's just what it is to them.

That said, it's pretty funny. For that much money, you'd think some sort of memo would be out there.
