Mike Garafolo: Saints are set to make a decision on Derek Carr within the next few weeks; likely to have multiple suitors if released (16 Viewers)

You said, "I like Rattler but he’s a fifth round pick..." For the life of me I still struggle with aligning a player's potential to where he was selected in the draft. There are countless examples of players that performed at a level far above where they were drafted, and countless example of players that performed at a level far below where they were drafted. My apologies for picking on just that piece of your statement, but the concept draws me in every time the 5th round pick comment comes up.
He says he;s a 5th rnd pick because there is a REASON he's a 5th rnd pick

It would have to make one wonder why it took 150 picks for him to be selected. I happen to think he’s much better than that and that we might’ve gotten our franchise QB. But, imo, he has not shown that he can develop over time, into a better QB than Carr. Do I want him to? Ofc. But I wouldn’t base the future on it happening by cutting Carr. Even though Carr represents the old regime. You go into the season with Carr and let Rattler develop as a number 2. Chances are, Rattler is playing by game 6 as Carr seems to have been getting injured these days.

If we made the playoffs would you have the same opinion?
It's not an opinion that a quarterback needs to be able to grip and hold the ball with both hands to play quarterback. That's a fact. The Saints being in the playoffs doesn't change that fact.

There’s no doubt that he plays if he made the playoffs.
That's an actual opinion and it's obviously your opinion.

He shoots that hand up.
It wasn't pain that kept him from being able to grip the ball with his left hand, it was an issue of strength. The damage in his hand weakened his grip. Shooting up wouldn't have made his grip better. Now, maybe rubbing some dirt on it would have helped.

If Kellen Moore decides he really doesn't want to move forward with Carr, they can certainly do that, but it would almost guarantee them no ability to sign any FA, including their own, Adebo, etc...
