Mike Garafolo: Saints are set to make a decision on Derek Carr within the next few weeks; likely to have multiple suitors if released (14 Viewers)

The player in that picture is not a QB. The player in that picture doesn't take snaps from the center, hand the ball off or throw.

What are you trying to say with that picture? How is it in any way relevant to a QB not being able to play if they can't grip and hold the ball with both hands?

I'm not knocking Carr for not playing. Its my opinion that he was encouraged to sit because we were already out of the playoff race, and the FO wanted to have an extended look at Rattler. Its my gut feeling.

And avoid further injury because of his injury guarantees. He needs to be healed by March 12th in order for the team to have the option to cut him. No point putting that at risk when the season was over and they didn't have a head coach for 2025. We'll see what Moore thinks of him.

The RPO that Hurts does is a great fit for Carr? Hurts ran 11 times for 72 yards in the Super Bowl. Carr didn't have that many rushing yard in 10 games this year and got hurt on one of the runs he did do. I don't think they are even remotely alike.
Yeah that is certainly a head scratching claim to make especially on a career basis:

Jalen Hurts
5 year career

697 attempts
3133 rushing yards
55 rushing TDs
4.6 average

Derek Carr
11 year career

327 attempts
956 rushing yards
7 rushing TDs
2.9 average

?

I’m thinking those are fairly dissimilar.

I think the tank will be rolling whether intentional or not. And I’m perfectly fine with that. Draft well, see what ya have with Rattler or Haener and start getting the cap right. Then nail the top 3 pick in 26.
We're not gonna be a top 3 pick in 2026, even without Carr. We're getting a new coach win bump.

Carr is a DA signing and the Saints needing the flexibility to potentially move on from Carr was probably a major motivation in him sitting the rest of the year as you said because they had little to play for in terms of playoff positioning and did not want to risk further injury and being stuck with the old regimes QB and having the new regime stuck with Carr.

Absolutely. While I don't think Carr is the worst QB in the league, I don't know that Moore is going to want to eat up one of his "grace period" years playing a QB that isn't going to be here long term. He's going to want to set himself up to have an opportunity to get his own guy sooner rather than later. There IS a way to move off of him should they decide to start there. They could easily choose to get younger this year instead, but that is a lot more roster spots to fill than just high upside / low risk QB.

He's going to run the same system he ran with Philly. Carr would actually be a great fit for that system.
Only thing he doesn't do well is the "Tush push" but that would be Taysom's gig if he returns.
They'll have to change the name though... maybe the "Saintly shove"....
This has to be one of the Carr brothers because it’s the most absurd take I’ve read on the whole thing, which says a lot.

I'm in agreement....a Carr trade is an unlikely scenario. But in the event that the unlikely starts to look possible, the Jets are one of 2 teams that immediately come to mind as actually making good sense. For all the reasons you cited. The other is the Steelers, who are looking for a solid, steady QB to provide some consistency under center. The Steelers have a pretty solid roster and aren't necessarily looking for a guy to single-handedly win games for them. They just want a guy who protects the football and doesn't make stupid mistakes in critical moments. A guy who may not win the game for you, but he won't lose it for you either. Carr is probably the perfect QB for that Steelers roster!
Um, what? The Steelers keep losing to elite teams because of the QB.
