Mike McCarthy will be back in 2024 (1 Viewer)

One of their biggest personnel mistakes was allowing Amari Cooper to leave via FA to Cleveland after the 2021 post-season. Cooper gave them that extra, #2 WR Pro-Bowl caliber role where he produced 1,000 yards and added an extra dimension to the Cowboys passing offense. Besides Lamb and a good, up-and-coming TE in Ferguson, and a serviceable TE in Schultz, their WR corps lacks depth. Cooper provided them that depth and allowing him to leave was, and still is, mind-boggling. Especially considering how great of a WR he's become with the Browns over the past two seasons.
Even worse, he didn’t leave, they traded him for peanuts (a 5th rounder and a swap of 6th’s).

They definitely could use him considering how paper thin their depth is at the position.

I think he's more patient than people realize; he let Jason Garett stay a little too long.
Some Cowboys insiders or writers have surmised that one of the reasons Jerry kept Garrett maybe 2-3 years longer then he should've was due to their long-time father-son relationship or friendship that had developed organically as far back as Garrett's playing days as a Cowboys backup in the early-to-mid 1990's and as aspiring QBs coach/OC for Dallas under Bill Parcells, then Wade Phillips regimes in the 2000's. Jerry always has had a sentiment side, even if occasionally went against his own (and his team's) best interests and even if, despite his 2007 and 2016 squads, most of his Cowboys teams, including this year's roster, were hardly would I label SB-caliber winning teams. Maybe in 2014 if they'd beaten Packers they wouldve slipped past overrated Seattle (as Green Bay should've done and blew, spectacularly), but beating NE in Super Bowl 49? Absolutely not.

But, let's not dismiss Garrett's achievements: he was the Dallas Cowboys HC for essentially a decade, behind HOF, legendary HC Tom Landry, he had four (4) winning seasons, 3 NFC East division titles, had a 85-67 overall win-loss HC record. If he doesn't coach another game in his life, that's worth something respectable. It's extremely difficult and rare to see any HC last beyond 5-6 seasons with most NFL teams, Garrett will go down as being the Cowboys HC with the longest tenure under Jones' ownership

Whoever made that trade should be slapped and publicly shamed, just on principle alone. Cooper has had two Pro Bowl-caliber seasons in Cleveland, he had perhaps the greatest season of his very life in 2023 when he had like 285 receiving yards in one game. FO personnel decisions like that, once again, prove and showcase why Dallas has even sniffed an NFCCG, God forbid, a Super Bowl appearance since Bill Clinton's first Presidential term in office.

Their FO's shortsightedness, man on trading away a great offensive weapon for beads, chewing gum, and bag of chips proverbially-speaking is why they have drastic depth issues right now on offense, particularly the WR corps.

They had to pay Cede Lamb, Daks due a big contract, I believe Micah is also.

Yup, this right here is coming this off season for them, which is why many were saying this season was their BEST shot in awhile and it ended up being one of their worst performances ever with this team :ROFLMAO: It wont get better next year because if there is a shortage of receiver talent, it will only get worse next season due to all the people they have to pay.

McCarthy would have been a top 3 candidate for the open Head Coaching jobs in the 2024 cycle had he been fired. He doesn't get the respect he deserves but he also warrants some of the criticism he gets, such as clock management. The man has been coaching in the NFL for 30 years. His first HC job was in 2006 when the Packers choose him over Sean Payton. People readily accept the notion the SP is a HOF coach, but that moniker isn't used on MM as fast. Compared records:

McCarthy Head Coaching Records: Payton Head Coaching Records:

30 Years NFL Coaching Experience - Age 60
25 Years NFL Coaching Experience - Age 60

16 Years As Head Coach (Payton Suspended 2012 Season)

The comparisons are almost identical. McCarthy has coached one more season than Payton due to the bounty gate bs suspension in 2012. Payton has a narrow edge in winning percentage. McCarthy has the edge in Division Championships, Overall Wins, Playoff Appearances, Playoff Wins, and 10 Wins Seasons.

There should be a slight overall edge in favor of McCarthy but that's probably not what the results would suggest were a national poll to ask who has had the best coaching career so far.

Thoughts?
Mike McCarthy is a good coach, only thing holding McCarthy back is Dak ability and Quinn coaching ability in the playoffs. Alot people enjoy making fun of cowboys but I think they a good coach.

Quinn is part of two of the most embarrassing defensive performances in playoff history. He's over rated in my opinion. I'll give him this, his defenses perform well in the regular season. However come postseason that's another matter.

People will often say Shannahans offense completely collapsed. The defensive collapse was just as spectacular, if not even more.

:hihi:

Just kidding, I actually think MM is a good coach. Also, I found that picture floating on the web.
