Miller haters still hating? (1 Viewer)

I wouldn't worry about the average at this point. I know at least one of his runs Penning completely whiffed on a block resulting in a 4 yard loss.

Just because someone critiques a player doesn’t mean they’re a “Hater!” Every player has some faults and as fans we call those players out on it. Lots of people we criticizing Drew’s lack of arm strength in his last 2 years but NOBODY “hated” Drew. Just because someone called out “your” player for something doesn’t make them a hater!
I think the problem is the nature of a forum means you'll read some people making reasonable critiques of Player XYZ alongside people making criticisms of the same player that are some combination of overwrought, unfair, hasty, personal and ridiculous. This leads to a backlash against the people who make the 2nd type of criticism, which makes people who make the 1st type of criticism think people can't stand any criticism of the player. I think the tone of this thread is more directed at the people who were immediately declaring Miller a bust and freaking out that we didn't draft Tyjae Spears.

Not a fan yet, but that one step and then cut up the middle for a TD was nice. A few more like that and I could be persuaded to start liking him. If he makes the team, he will be one of my 54 favorite Saints player for the year. Still runs stiff in my opinion though. Mariweather is much more fluid and a natural runner. Not sure which one can or will pick up the blitzing linebacker....I was glad to see him back on the field after spraining his knee last week. Shows he's tough. That's good.

Well said.

He will make the team.

I agree with that.

However, I have seen some posters who seem to be rooting for Spears over Miller for the “I told you so’s” or calling Miller a missed pick after 1 preseason game. In the “Don’t watch the Titans’ highlights” thread, I’m pretty sure I saw someone refer to him as trash or garbage.

I think those are the comments that this thread was poking at, not people who voice opinions or concerns about his speed, running style, or whatever.

LordPoopington said it pretty well, I think.

Nobody is hating. We just want to see better production.
Yeah I want to see better production too, but its hard to get that production when you're running behind the 2nd team O-Line and some of them aren't executing and allowing defensive players in the backfield blowing up the RB. He did do a much better job last night. I was impressed. He needs to show progress every week and he will be something special.

Miller seemed to hit the hole much better. At the goal line I was like no no don’t go left and he cut back to the hole inside. It was terrific. Great catch on the wheel route as well. They didn’t trust Spears knee from what I read. They will inevitably be compared with players drafted right after but Haener and Miller impressed yesterday. And now we can all just pile on Foskey together 🤣

Remember, Miller didn’t participate in any OTAs r minicamp as he was still recovering from injury. Hell, at one point, I was soo wondering if he would even be healthy enough for TC! Fortunately, he was FINALLY able to get out there, but he’s got LOTSA catching up to do! And it showed against KC. Kendre looked tentative, unsure, slow…take ur pick!
THEN he ended up getting hurt! 🫣

But he DID make the trip to LA, n when I heard that he was in da game, all I wanted to see was a sign, ANY sign, of improvement! He had 10 carries for only 23 yds. BUT he had one of the biggest plays of the game for us with a beautiful 27 yd catch that put us in the red zone! And on the next play, he scored on a 7yd run! Later, he did a nice job picking up a blitzer in pass pro.

All he needs to do now is stay healthy, build upon his play against the Chargers, n continue to grow n develop!

N I think he’ll b able to contribute for us as a rookie this year!

But we’ll see!

Eye test says Spears more explosive and shifty than Miller, injury concerns aside. I know that ship has sailed and any Spears injury would get “ I told you so’s” but we’re talking back up 3rd down RB here and the Spears supporters do have a point. With RB shelf life 3 or 4 years, the gamble was probably worth it. Just my opinion.

We are trying to judge the shiftiness and explosiveness of someone with a FULLY visible and large brace on one leg?

What is going on here?

His rushing stats only look bad because of all the yards he loss due to poor blocking where the defenders were already in the backfield as he received the handoffs. He looked good on all the snaps where there weren't a defender in his face as soon as he received the handoff.

Yeah, I thought his blocking was pretty bad too.

And then he made that beautiful 27 yd catch! When he he got up, seemed like he got a lil dinged up on that play too. But he was so “hype”, n seemed like the O, n esp the O line, got “hype” too!

I dunno what the following playcall was, or the who was personnel that was in blocking for him. All I saw was Kendre take the handoff, take a step to his left, plant his left foot, cut, n hit da hole hard n fast for the 7yd TD!

Dinged up r not, no doubt in my mind, Kendre REALLY wanted dat one! And he got it!

The question now, is can he take those back to back plays n use them to help build his confidence moving forward.

We’ll see

Think Saints liked Miller over some other guys because he’s more of a power back and they want to have two physical runners so Alvin can play more on the edge and in the passing game.

Yes, I think that was a big part of the decision making. Spears or Achane would be more satellite/3rd down back/ Kamara replacements, whereas they were looking for someone to be a primary carrier/ Kamara partner. This was part of a plan to correct the issue last year where Kamara was just wasted and worn down running up the middle 10x a game (because someone had to do it), rather than being used as a versatile offensive weapon.
