My assessment of the saints offseason so far (2 Viewers)

greetings all 1st post on :sr1: been a reader a while though

FS
Sharper-Major upgrade over Bullocks (Bears cant be THAT desperate?)

Usama Young- will make a good safety much better than at CB imo with his physicality and size being better suited for the S position. Should be main backup at FS & SS if he does infact make the switch. If he exceeds expectations he may even steal snaps from Harper in obvious passing situations

Prioleau-nice pickup for special teams and knows WIlliams system. Could start in a pinch and not be a huge liability (Bullocks). Not a playmaker though evidence of his 1 career int.

CB
Greer-upgrade simply by him him being on the field and not injured (MM)
plus he has an 85 on madden and a 94 speed :hihi:

Porter-Wil start opposite Greer and basically be a new addition since he missed most of last season. I see Pro Bowl potential in this guy

FB
Evans-upgrade over Karney. Karney was so stiff and one-dimensional and always went down on 1st contact even though hes built like a tank. Evans with his speed, vision, running ability, and ability to get to the 2nd and 3rd level quickly will be why he will have a career year in this offense mark my words

DE
Spicer-love the signing. Should rotate all along the D-line at both end and tackle and if Grant/Smith dont get their act together he & Mccray are gonna take those spots. Charleston- was impressive but he may be stuck in a #s game

DT
Coleman-man im so excited about this signing i think he is going to come back and be a pro bowl caliber player. Him and Ellis 2gether on passing downs with Mccray and Smith/Grant/or whoever should be scary for any QB especially with the extravigant blitzes i expect from GW.

LB
Morgan-Not as confident in Morgan boucning back as i am in Coleman but i am hopeful he can come in and take a starting job from either olb because i think both our olbs need to be upgraded. At least one we cannot continue to have two unathletic slow LBs manning the olb positions. Id like to see Marcus Washington come in and compete and also draft a LB thats an athletic freak like Barwin

WR
Meach-I really think he will start opposite Colston. He just has too much big play potential to not be in the game. He did well whenever he was in last year.

Arrington-Should make roster but i dont expect him to be over any higher than 5 on the depth chart unless someone gets injured. I like him but I like Meachem more.

RB
Bell/Hamilton-I dont see why these two cant be competent enough as a 3rd/power back. I dont want a 1st rd RB. I liked what i seen from these two and am willing to give them a shot. Not to mention that FB cant remember how to spell his name olyiani sobeheimi or somthin like that he can tote the rock and block.
marcus washington is not the answer, he is not he player he used to be

david makes more plays than gay if they can stretch him 4 or 5 inches taller he would be awesome. gay is a very solid average cb but i hate how he always lets his guy catch the ball and then tackle instead of jumping routes, he doesnt take any chances. Not sure if thats a bad thing with our safeties though

OK.

Gay doesn't jump routes? He's not supposed to, the CB is supposed to keep his eyes on the receiver. His job isn't to intercept. His job is to make sure the WR doesn't catch it.

The Safety is the gambler, not the CB.

I'm not even sure why everybody thinks he won't be a starter this year, Gay can do thiis stuff.

im not sure this correct, I think interceptions are a good thing though and the more people that can do it the better. I think the safeties shouldnt gamble though because they are the SAFETY/ last line of defense

You may be right sailor.

Just a difference of opinion.

I think the CBs can't gamble because they have the dual responsibilty of covering the fastest recievers, and the run to their side. (Cover Two). The Safety has the open field.

But even in man, the CB has to Keep His Eyes On The Receiver.

No playing the intercept. If it happens, it happens, great!

But we look for the Safety men to grab the ball for us, not the CBs.

Bears aren't starting Bullocks, he is a STer for them. Bowman is who they are starting at FS. And Payne (La-Monroe) is who they are starting at SS.

Meach better live up to his billing this year. No more excuses.

meach

honestly, I don't see him livin up to whatever expectations anybody ever had for him... i see his tenure here ending sooner rather than later

i think wells would be another meach , and never live up to expectations

There is a strong possibility of this because Wells would be trying to fill some huge cleats (Deuce's). And most fans would compare Wells to the memories of the old gamebreaking Deuce. Wells is a decent back but not on a young, healthy Deuce's level. Now imagine what happens if Wells struggles in the big back role and Deuce has success moving piles with another team this year = board meltdown.......

now I have heard everything... CBs are not supposed jump routes ??? :fou: The safety is there so CBs CAN jump routes .. it all depends what type of coverage scheme the secondary calls... the job of the safety is to " not let ANY offensive player get between him and the goal line" that is football 101...the safety is NOT the gambler...he is .. the last line of defense..
