My hope entering free agency (7 Viewers)

No matter which coach is selected to lead this team, one thing is certain.......we must get better and younger. Say no to a Carr restructure to get cap compliant. The Saints do not have to cut him, but a restructure handcuffs him to the organization beyond 2026. Carr is not good enough for that. Use him as a bridge this year, but please, please do not extend him. Make the hard, but necessary decisions regarding older players. Moving on from some of our favorite players may not be popular, but for our long term success, it might haveta happen. Make decisions for our future.....especially regarding the salary cap. Let's not be in the worst cap shape out of the 32 teams for another year.

In free agency, let's stay within our budget and target young, up & coming players. Stay clear of older veterans that may still be very good, but on their last leg. No - 1 or 2 year deals on older players. We are not in a "win now" mode. Attack free agency to build solid depth. Think this coming season as a "growing pains" year. I don't care about the record. Just get better and younger. A push for prosperity can come in 2027 and beyond.

While it will never happen, consider trading back and stockpiling picks in the draft. We need to get better and younger. Hopefully, we get lucky and hit on several players. The only way out of this mess is with talented players. Coaching only takes you so far. Obviously, one key ingredient to getting relevant is to find your next franchise QB. That's easier said than done. I'm just praying we get lucky. Maybe we have a top pick in 2027 to land a superstar. Probably wishful thinking, but without that special QB, the Saints will never truly be contenders again.

Just don't continue the same ole same ole. That "win now" at all costs blueprint. That window is closed. Better and younger.......better and younger.....
I agree, and having an offensive head coach with lots of experience at the qb position he should be able to recognize qb talent. He may even know who he wants to bring in.

It’s funny you say this, because Mickey Loomis pretty much laid out the ground foundation without outright saying it last year that we would be less aggressive, won’t max out restructures and would let things settle a bit to reset things, and now the results of that act have been weaponized and people have a target on his back after just one injury riddled year 5-12 season.

How do you think that same fanbase would react to “Embrace the suck” results? Mrs. Benson and Mickey would both need private security detail and an extra sniper officer or two in the dome watching over them at all times.
Certainly see your point, not this fan tho. I hope (and think) they lose 12 plus games next season, nail the top 5 pick (hopefully a franchise QB) and propel our team back to contention.

Also, whether we embrace it or not, it has indeed sucked. 😂

I will never understand how someone that calls themselves a fan can have this mind set. A true fan wants the team they cheer for to win every game no matter what!

Nah, there are plenty of reasons that a good fan would want a result other than a win. Not all situations are the same. Like, what if a Saints win did nothing for the Saints but gave the Falcons home field advantage throughout the playoffs? Or what if a Saints win on the last week of the season took their draft pick from #1 to #7?

I don't want our players or coaches thinking that way because it's counter to a winning mentality. But fans can think different things than a player or coach or GM should without questioning how much of a fan they are.

And I’ll never understand how a fan can be content with what we’ve seen the last few seasons. I’d love for the team to win em all, but that will never happen. I want the team to be able to truly compete again, not hover around .500. I’m thinking long term, not short term and .500 doesn’t do it for me.

Having said that, as a fan since 1980, seen lots of terrible iterations of the team and have always loved em no matter what and always will. Win or lose.

So call me less of a fan all you want, I know how ludicrous that is and I couldn’t care less your opinion of me or my fanhood lol.
Fan how you want to, I’ll do the same.

This all day. I’m hoping we can acquire some high picks and nail em. To be more than just barely able to sustain mediocrity.

I don’t question how other fans choose to fan either, fan how ya wanna. I couldn’t care less who thinks I’m less of a fan for wanting the team to be better than mediocre, and thinking long term rather than short term.

Unless the team nails the draft, almost historically, they will be tanking this coming season whether anyone wants them to or not. Period. The team lacks talent all over the field.

That's the whole misunderstanding we have with some other fans. Some are looking one step in front of them and others are looking a mile out. I don't care if we trip and fall on our faces with the next step we take as long as we're in position to win the whole freaking thing in a mile.

Agreed.
Unlike Merl (whom I actually like as a poster, he makes me chuckle with his hardline stances) I encourage any other fans to fan how they want to. Life is way too short and there are way more important things to worry about than how others “fan”.

Just my 0.02. Life is good, enjoy it how ya wanna. 😊 Who Dat.
