My hope entering free agency (1 Viewer)

What was the falcons' slogan from a few years back, "Embrace the suck"? Well I'm ready to do that. I embrace the rebuilding process. That's our only hope. I don't want to see them gimp around at 5-9 wins a year. Give me 3 wins and some hope for the future. We're not in a position to win the whole damn thing so we might as well take it on the chin and look to the future.

It’s funny you say this, because Mickey Loomis pretty much laid out the ground foundation without outright saying it last year that we would be less aggressive, won’t max out restructures and would let things settle a bit to reset things, and now the results of that act have been weaponized and people have a target on his back after just one injury riddled year 5-12 season.

How do you think that same fanbase would react to “Embrace the suck” results? Mrs. Benson and Mickey would both need private security detail and an extra sniper officer or two in the dome watching over them at all times.

It would seem that Loomis is and has been doing exactly what it is really needed but fans don’t like it. I kind of believe him wanting to keep Dennis on would’ve given us a better draft position and that was his plan all along maybe? But Mrs B and the collective fan base got antsy and was calling for his head

Yeah the younger generation is going to struggle with reaching rock bottom. Poor Summer children have no idea how bad it's probably going to get before it gets better. But if Loomis comes out and clearly lays out a plan and vision for the future then maybe some rational fans can recalibrate and look at the big picture.

Of course there are going to be a great many fans who aren't going to be happy no matter what. The same fans who found plenty to complain about during The Golden Age of Saints football. Like the people who got bent out of shape about the greatest passer of a football to ever live getting a large contract that was an absolute bargain a year later. No pleasing them one way or another.

As it took many great and near-great teams of the past several years if not decades to replace their HOF QBs (Marino, Kelly, Elway, Montana/Young, Gibbs' three SB-winning QBs in the '80s in Washington), so it will take a generation to replace Brees. You won't ever replace him in terms of character.

We're always under the cap by the time free agency and the draft rolls around, so I'm not too worried about having the money to spend. Sometimes you need to sign veteran players to help mentor all the young players you have on the team. I can tell you the Saints will probably restructure Carr's contract that will give them a big chunk of money off the salary cap and we will be tied to Carr for at the least another 2-3years. Hopefully by then Rattler will be able to take over or we can draft one of the top QB's in the next 2-3 years. But I do agree we need to keep getting younger and get more solid players in free agency.
Because we keep pushing the money into future years.. that has to stop at some point.

Rattler is trash 🗑️
To be fair we could have had Patrick Mahomes last year and he would have looked like trash. Rattler is still an unknown and shouldn't be judged by last year alone. Now if he gets his opportunity this year and he regresses then you can start to wonder if he is NFL worthy, but he has good qualities that can be molded, and he is young and can be coached up.

That's why this coaching decision is extremely important and why I want an offensive driven coach.

We don't know how to do that
Only trade up with next years 1st round pick

We had a deal to do that last year with the Rams if Bowers was on the board at our pick. But, had they done it, the cries from this board for passing on Bowers would have been deafening.

And they should not have done that deal, but that's always the danger with trading down and that's often the cost if you do it. I like the concept, but it can cause you to miss out on some good to great players.
