My Opinion (Full Offseason Move Summary) (2 Viewers)

Roman Harper will not be released. When will everyone get this? Whether you like it or not, Jenkins and Harper will be on thenroster as safeties next year. It's 8 million dollars to Harper of the next 2 years. Argue with me about what the websites say if you want, but the way his contract is structured he has 8 million dollars guaranteed to him for the next 2 years.

Anthony spencer will be an OLB in the 3-4. His biggest strength is his coverage abilities.

If Ed Reed takes a big enough pay cut to play for the Saints, then the Ravens will be able to afford to bring him back for a year or 2.

With the amount of talent at OLB and that being the biggest hole in the defense. Why would the saints pass on one in the first round? For a safety? The last time the saints did that, they took Jenkins over Cushing and Mathews. You actually think they are going to do it again?

Anthony spencer is not a pass rushing OLB! He is a coverage OLB. The only reason he got his sacks is because he was playing opposite Ware and took advantage I double teams on blitz plays. Even if Spencer is signed, he wouldn't be a fix to the lack of pass rush that the defense has.

I owe you a huge apology. I was actually doing all of this on my iPhone earlier as I was riding down the highway on a trip. I read on a Cowboys site (I cannot find it now to SAVE MY LIFE) and someone had obviously misquoted Ryan. I swear I read that, and I didn't look it up to check his size, although I remembered him always being a huge guy (guess my image was wrong)...so yeah, I've fixed it now. I put in Brandon Williams in the 2nd because I've seen him creeping up boards, maybe that's too early for him. Could we get a better NT in the 2nd? Anyways, I apologize...

Also and this is pure opinion...well probably have a better chance@ getting victor butler than anthony spencer

Yeah maybe so, seems like Dallas will try hard to keep Spencer. I'd be happy with him too. Sorry about the Spencer thing, I misread a quote from Ryan (from a fan) and I'm trying to find the source now. Doesn't matter though because Spencer obviously wouldn't fit at 3-4 DE...but I always imagined him as being a huge boy, hence, the reason I believed the stuff.

Not too bad. I'd still like the kicker from Tulane in the seventh round. moving MJ back to corner is a serious mistake. also getting ridd of Chris Ivory is another big mistake. other than those 3 things it doesn't look too bad.

Yeah, you know that kicker idea might be a great one. I don't like Hartley, and every time he kicks the ball it has a funny tilt to it and curves off to the side. I don't WANT to get rid of Ivory, but at the time we have a full stable of RBs and we have a ton of holes to fill on the defense. If we do not get rid of Ivory, maybe try to get something out of Sproles??? Or PT?? The thing is this...with any of them, someone is going to look bad...

Ivory---hard runner and he's been patient and not had a good chance yet
Ingram---don't want to admit that was a dumb trade
Sproles---our X factor, creates mismatches for SPs schemes (he's not going anywhere IMO)
PT---the most complete back we have, great screen game, pounder, plays with lots of heart

I disagree about MJ, I think we're lucky to have a player that can play FS and CB. But we can agree to disagree.

I still think we need to get someone to spell Bunkley at NT in the new 3-4 scheme. We should look at bringing back Aubrayo Franklin on a 1 or 2 year deal. I know he is 32, but this guy could probably do well on the cheap to spell Bunkley. We would have to wrestle him away from the Chargers.
He went out on I.R. in late December, but should be ready around June/July to test that knee/foot. His other contract was for 890,000 for one year.
If you look at New England, the revolving door never seems to get Brady or Wilfork.

To the OP:

I appreciate the time you took on this. I don't always agree with what you have, but you did some homework on this. There are a few things I wish to comment on regarding your post:

Harper would save only 1 million in cap space if he's released. (See this link: New Orleans Saints - 2013 Cap Hits ) which indicates his cap hit is 7.1 million, but his dead money if released would be 6.1 million, equaling just a 1 million dollar savings. They can save more on the cap if his contract is restructured and he becomes a rush SS in certain situations on the field, which he has shown he is very good at being, or perhaps a backup ILB. With a new cap number, that would seem to be where he can help most. I definitely agree he is a liability in the passing defense.

The next thing is that Brees has stated clearly that he will not accept a restructuring of his contract, though he could change his mind. I just don't see it as a foregone conclusion that his contract will be restructured.

I do not see the Saints pursuing Ed Reed (or Charles Woodson for that matter). I say this because I see it as too restrictive on the cap, which will be flat for the next two seasons, at least.

Still, I do appreciate the work you put into this post.
