NBA Playoffs N/P '24 NBA Playoffs (3 Viewers)

OK, bad rotations and late closeouts are an examples of what? The Mavs poor shooting had more to do with the fact that their shots were blocked 10+ times and they had only EIGHT ASSISTS for the entire game due to Boston's good rotations and early closeouts.

I'm not dismissing 3's or 3pta, I'm pointing out that solid team defense is just as important.

My point had nothing to do with the Mavs... My point was they make everyone pay from 3 because they can all shoot them 1-5. (6-8 too) It's not possible to defend that consistently by anyone - The Mavs could have started 5 Herb Jones'... No team is surviving 7 for 27 vs 16 for 42 from three... Not one.

Mavs scored only 89pts. This 3pta argument would hold more weight if Bos scored 130+ and the Mavs managed to match their average PPG. Boston's defense had a lot to do with Dal's poor offensive performance.
It's more about commitment to a philosophy on offense and using it to leverage spacing and sticking with an identity. Which is what Celtics do all season. They shot the most 3s in the league. It creates space.

If Celtic was unwilling to shot those 3s. They wouldn't have a 20 point win. Shooting 3s isn't about the score, it's the gravity on the court that it affects. Pringles ate up all that spacing for easy buckets.

Celtics really won it with defense -- no lobs, no corner 3's, Irving having to work like mad just to get off a half-decent shot.

It's hard for younger role players to step up on the road in the playoffs, and that showed with the Mavs last night. Curious to see if someone can step up in game 2.

The game was won in the 1st qtr sparked by the Celtics overall intensity and you could attribute that to their emotional response to that Walton tribute. Not to mention that the Mavs couldn't score once Porzingis entered the game, the score was 11-12 when he entered at 7min mark and the score was 20-37 at the end of the 1st.

Agreed.

Now, what has stopped the Mavs from reaching their average 3PTA which is 33 for 36%?

Spacing is important. 3's are important. Defense is just as important and shooting percentages go down drastically when shots are contested.

They won it with both. Can't win one without the other. If Celtics ever had an offensive lul and give Mavs to get momentum. They would.

Mavs got unguardable players that just need the right bounce.

This is typical why all defense or offensive teams sink. They need both. Pelicans would of lost that game.

At the same time, Dallas had no answer for Boston’s offense.

Boston shot 45% from the field and 26% from 3. Tatum was 6-22 and was relegated to being a playmaker while playing 45 minutes. Which sounds familiar. Fortunately Boston defended VERY well. Jrue Holiday stepped up big and Jalen Brown also did just enough to fill in the gap. Boston also only missed 1 free throw,

Tatum been awful this series so far

Wrong game he's talking about

Awful by his standard is my context, sorry.

I think this is just a product of the standard they set, and that we expect... he had a near triple double last night 18-12-9... That's "awful" for the best player on BOS team... It doesn't matter much though.... because the other 4 (or 5 depending on how you count KP) are getting them 15-25 points each. That's why they are - and have been the best all year... even if JT isn't getting 30+... they have 3-5 other guys that could very well be the 2nd or 3rd best scorers on most other teams. If Luka and Ky don't each go off every game... they are getting killed.
