NCAA > NFL? (3 Viewers)

You sound like someone who doesn't watch much college football. You could have fooled us, but you mentioned Notre Dame. Every fan of college football knows that Notre Dame doesn't belong in the same conversation as those other schools.

They're the Dallas Cowboys of college football. They have a huge fan base, so networks will pump them up because it keeps viewers tuned in.
But they can get to the playoffs.
For most college teams, you can go undefeated and get still not get into the playoffs.

Until the FBS level of NCAA football comes up with a "true" playoff system like every other level of NCAA football or every other NCAA sport than it will be hard for me to see it as legit and not corrupt. You have 5 conferences controlling everything. If you are a fan of a group of 5 conference team you know going in that you are not making the playoffs no matter what you do. I understand school pride and all that but I would at least like to know I have a shot at the playoffs. Maybe someone pulls an upset and it becomes exciting. It happens in the NCAA basketball tournament. You see small schools winning titles in baseball. But for some reason the NCAA has allowed their highest level of football be run by a select group of people.

Half the teams in FBS have no chance to compete for a championship, even if they go undefeated. That's not better than the NFL. I still enjoy college football though.

The difference is that bad NFL franchises are the result of bad management. You can get out of that.
The Saints, Patriots, Colts, and Seahawks are great examples. Up until the 00s, they were the laughing stock. Now each can be considered a marquee franchise.
CFB openly admits they won’t put a team in the playoffs because it’s not a blue chip program.

So?

A team's record was always the dumbest measuring stick of who the best teams were, IMO. The current playoff format is a step towards correcting that. A 8-team format including a mix of at-large teams and conference champions would be a perfect fit. If your team doesn't make the playoffs, there is still more football left to watch and a trip to make to do it.

NFL teams are in the same exact scenario. We know that North Texas isn't going to make the playoffs, much less win the Nat'l Title game in the same way that we all knew that Cleveland wasn't going to win a Superbowl for the last decade. Every year, you have four, maybe five teams with a realistic chance at winning the Superbowl and a couple more teams that could line up a run if they get lucky and stay healthy. That's EXACTLY like college football.

I'm not blaming Saban, he is a great recruiter, but because of his success he pretty much has his pick of the top talent every year. It's like a juggernaut that just keeps building strength. The NFL draft is a system that levels the playing field.
I'll watch LSU and some big games, but I'm an NFL guy.
I also hate schools scheduling cupcake games.

Ridiculous. Do you know why this will never happen? It doesn't matter how many teams you include, you're going to end up with the 4 schools everyone thought would be there art the end. Unlike basketball and baseball, token underdogs don't stand a chance in beating the giants. Schools and fans aren't going to give up their bowl games for a chance to be a footnote on the way to a final four of Alabama, Clemson, Michigan State and Washington that everyone, including the players on the teams was going to occur anyway.

I like the contrast of offensive approaches in the college game. There are a lot of smart, innovative coaches on that level. In the NFL, what the Chiefs are doing is considered "exotic."

I'm probably a weirdo, but I go nuts watching teams run Wing T, wishbone, Air Raid, etc. NFL is too homogenized of a product.

At least the NCAA does automatic reviews on targeting calls and dismisses the offending player for the rest of the game and the first half of the next game when they are breaking safety rules.

Always prefer College over NFL more excitement and unexpecting big plays happen. The officiating is bad but not as bad as the NFL which after the NFC championship game it makes college officiating look like the gold standard of officiating. College football brought me into the NFL really. There is a lot more history and pageantry to college as well. Some people don't like that but I do being a huge history buff.

If you want to see teams getting officiating help... watch the top tier NCAA football games. You will see Saints/Rams type calls/no-calls weekly. It's sickening.

Yea, but the proportions are all different. If half the NFL, or 16 teams never had a chance of making the playoffs, then it would be comparable. Plus they think a 4-team playoff is a good representation of a league with over 100 teams. It really is ridiculous if you think about it. Also there is that little thing that everybody is getting rich except the players. I really don't think college football is anywhere near as fair as the NFL, but again, I enjoy watching college football.
