New Era for free agents to Nola (3 Viewers)

We were consistently named one of the top destinations in the last 15 years of the Drew Brees era. Until we get another elite QB look for free agents to look elsewhere.

Separately, I'm not terribly disappointed that we didn't get OBJ. I think he would have been a locker room problem just like he has been in his first two NFL stops.
Yea, but how many did we get? I guess Stafford is elite...STOP IT!

We have no money. That’s it. Period.

And by the way, free agency is not that important building our team.

Our first focus should be to maximize your draft picks by choosing well.

Our second to use cap money to re-sign home developed players to second contracts. That is where the big money should be spent.

And free agency should be use to bring smart, reliable players to bargain contracts.

I am very hesitant to get into a bidding war for any player. They may produce but seldom to the level their contract is worth.

Even without Drew Brees, the saints are still a very attractive place to play. The team is always competing.

Let’s not get dramatic, right now we just don’t have money and we are also on a transition on the quarterback position.

As soon as we clear some salary cap space over the next couple of seasons, the free agents will sign with us. Not every team has a Drew Brees, but they manage to sign free agents... and we do still have a future HOF coach.

Given the choice between two organizations if the offers are similar I go with the better culture (Packers/Saints). If the better organization offers substantially less money I have to go with the better offer. It’s just that simple. Rams were probably a winning organization with the best cash offer.

He chose LA. over GB after spending 2 years in Cleveland, it's not that complicated. You have to have an attractive team set up as well and with our current QB situation that was a non-starter.

This reminds me when we tried to sign Deion Sanders, offered him a kings ransom and he went else where. Once JW went down OBJ was out of the picture completely
Yup. Offered to make him the highest paid DB in NFL history at the time and he opted to join the 1994 “rent a Hall of Famer” 49ers team on a 1-year, incentive laden, under the table deal.

He won a Super Bowl too.

Then went to Dallas the next year and won another.

Sometimes the football gods are real buttheads.

Winston being healthy would have made little difference in getting OBJ.
1. We weren’t contenders with him anyway.
2. He isn’t an elite QB.

It's fine if you are not a fan of Jameis but before last week's loss we were in a position be win the division. I'm not saying I expected us to win the super bowl but we were a legit playoff contender. You may want to question his accuracy ( the turnover question has been put to rest) but he has one of the best deep balls in the league and he has the highest ceiling of any QB currently on this roster. I'm not saying he was a top 5 QB but he was making progress in the right direction with a depleted WR group.

The big market teams will always draw appeal from big name players because there is more of a individual incentive in getting new endorsement deals and Jersey sales. Being a playoff contending team is also icing on the cake.
