Ive decided to start getting into the NFL now its more widely available here in the UK, Ive picked the saints because I like the colours and the logo and I know you dislike the buccanners (but dislike the falcons more) and i support Manchester United and absolutely despise the glazers.

What information should I know to become a good fan of the saints? Why do we hate the falcons so much? What are your expectations for next season?

You unfortunately just missed out on the golden age of this franchise. The future looks very precarious right now. As for the Falcons, they're the Falcons. It's like that guy you know who just has a punchable face. They're easy to hate. It's a time honored tradition and the rivalry dates decades back.

The failcons are hated so much because they are trash. They say they despise everything about us, yet they want to be everything like us. Plus, never forget they blew a 28-3 lead in the superbowl!

Our expectations for upcoming seasons are always the same: Championships, championships, and championships. Oh, and tacos!
 
If you'd like to catch up on some history, just start Youtubeing stuff from the Drew Brees/Sean Payton era, especially our 2009 Superbowl season.

Also worth looking up the Jim Mora/Dome Patrol era. We had a light's out linebacking corp that really was special. Also, Jim Mora has some interviews and press conferences that you gotta see. He was a very unique man lol.

Expectation 1- SuperBowl.... Can't be a Saints fans without unrealistic expectations

Expectation #2 - Be prepared to have your heart broken... Comes with the territory... But be resilient

Find a way to come to a game or two each year - Despite some of the negative nannies on this board it is a ton of fun

Get rid of that British accent for just a while when you yell WHO DAT.... may come out as Who Dey and that is unacceptable.

The Falcons and Saints joined the league 1 year apart.. Falcons in 1966 and Saints in 1967.... Relative proximity makes road trips for both fan bases (Falcons at last count had 20 fans) easy. In the early years they had our number and pulled out lucky wins and their fans ( I think they had 30 back then) were obnoxious....

So that's my take. Enjoy the ride.... When we do win (and we will again) there is nothing like it
 
There's 2 fanbase eras merged into the current saints fansbase

1. Pre Sean Payton/Brees/Reggie Bush era to the present - (goes back decades, tons of historical information and game experiences to share, "O.G die hards", lost a few years of ours lives through the struggles/battles with this team..etc)

2. Sean Payton/Brees/Reggie Bush era to the present - (they are ok :))

For the Atlanta part there's kind of a historic rivalry between the cities of New Orleans and Atlanta to begin with. But when it comes to football Atlanta was in our division when we were in the NFC West. At the time our division was 49ers, Rams, Falcons, Saints. When the NFL re-aligned and created the NFC South, the Falcons were the only team that came with us. So where we've only been in a division with Tampa and Carolina for 20 years, we've been division rivals with Atlanta for over 50 years.
 
A coach once famously traded every draft pick they had to land a RB called Ricky Williams.
 
Welcome! It’s a wild ride! You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll love to love the team and you’ll love to hate some of the personell, you’ll break things, you’ll piece them back together (like your poor, poor heart), but somehow it’s all worth it and every year the blind optimism takes over and you can’t help but get a little giddy.
