Actually GavUK, the best thing about being a Saints fan right now is this forum. We know how to live with our Saints even when our quality of football is second to everyone. We may not be the worst team in NFL just yet, but we’re giving it the ol’ college try.

But please don’t despair. Sure it took us 44 years from our inception to reach the pinnacle of NFL greatness. But I’m confident that we can do it all again in half that time!

Just watching 'America's game 2009 new orleans saints' on youtube, there's a few parrells between the saints and United which I like, most notably being able to come back from a disaster to be successful, and the legendary coach/manager loving his chewing gum.

You unfortunately just missed out on the golden age of this franchise. The future looks very precarious right now. As for the Falcons, they're the Falcons. It's like that guy you know who just has a punchable face. They're easy to hate. It's a time honored tradition and the rivalry dates decades back.

he may have missed the golden age of the last few years, but at least he also missed the no-call. since this game i see the nfl with different eyes. i wish i'd be as uninhibited as i was when i became a fan.

They did a leveraged buyout of the club in 2005 (put us into debt so they could buy the club) something that wouldn't be able to happen these days, they have taken dividends out most seasons for themselves and only allowed us to spend a small fraction of what we could have done if we were running self sustainable. They have badly managed the club too with their appointments and the state of the stadium is getting worse and worse.

Support whoever feels right for you man, just stay clear of the oil clubs (because whats the point)

I get it. Been a Gunner’s fan for about 25 years. Maybe thirty.

Ive decided to start getting into the NFL now its more widely available here in the UK, Ive picked the saints because I like the colours and the logo and I know you dislike the buccanners (but dislike the falcons more) and i support Manchester United and absolutely despise the glazers.

What information should I know to become a good fan of the saints? Why do we hate the falcons so much? What are your expectations for next season?

The Falcons are our oldest divisional rivals. The Bucs were only moved to our division in 2002 and the Panthers have only existed since 1996. The Falcons and Saints have been divisional rivals for pretty much their entire franchise histories.

You should learn the WhoDat chant. And yeah, as others have noted, watch 2009 videos, Dome Patrol videos, Jim Mora videos, 2006 videos (Deuce McAllister, Steve Gleason), Tom Dempsey's record-setting field goal (it's since been broken but it held for decades).

Welcome to the SSF board. It can be a wild ride at times.

For the most part we hate the Falcons because....................well just because!

It really all goes back to the Dome Patrol days. The Saints had one of the best defenses in NFL history, and one of the best teams in the NFL, but they never made it to the Super Bowl. The reason? The Atlanta freaking Falcons. In those days, the Saints won all but 2 or 3 games, and I think the Falcons barely had a winning record. It should be an easy win - in theory.

And, even though the Saints were one of the top 2 or 3 teams in the NFL in the regular season, the Falcons had the Saints number in the playoffs. The Saints would play the Falcons in the playoffs, and the Falcons didn't just beat the Saints, they made them look silly. They did that one year, then I think it was the very next year the Saints were in the same situation, playing the Falcons in the playoffs. So, you'd think after the defeat the year before, the Saints would come out ready for blood. Only they got spanked again, and never got close to the Superbowl again until Sean Payton and Drew Brees came along.

So, it's like the bully got beat up by the wimpy kid.

That and just nobody likes Atlanta, the city.

Something like that.
