Speculation NFL Network Believes Chase Young Will Have A "Strong Market" Once Free Agency Starts (1 Viewer)

I believe that is incorrect. Teams can't get comp picks from voided contracts. There are years left on the contracts therefore they are being released due to the terms of the contract making them street free agents, not unrestricted free agents that qualify for comp picks. Chase Young has 4 void years and will be released.
He's essential a free agent, we should get a comp pick if he signs a descent contract elsewhere------please do

It’s written into the CBA:

We received a comp pick for Onyemata, and he had several automatic voidable years in his deal.

As an example for the second part of the above, we could not receive a comp pick for Peat, even with automatic void years. We renegotiated his contract to convert actual contract years to void years, so he did not play for us for the “Maximum Possible Term”.
So as long as it hasn’t been restructured already a comp pick is in play? And since Young was on a one year deal with 4 void years there was no restructure?

A comp pick is in play for his contract since he played out the full term of the contract as written (he was never actually under contract for later years due to the automatic void clause). Both team and player entered into the contract knowing that 2024 was the only year that Young would be on the Saints roster, assuming no contract extension or re-signing.

A restructure alone wouldn't prevent a comp pick (Onyemata's contract was restructured in both 2021 and 2022), but renegotiating a contract to convert "real" years to void years would prevent a comp pick (as what happened with Peat). Edit to add that the comp pick falls out of play because changing real years to void years is the equivalent of releasing the player before the end of their original contract.

I don't want either Chase or Cam on the roster at the likely cost for either, Cam is playing like dead money walking. He needs to go full time poscaster and fantasize about the good old days.. Chase was a mystery as to when he would play at full go and when he would go through the motion. Each is great at self-preservation and Cam has the gift of words

This is just his agent doing his job. Still, Young is one of the few FA's I would prioritize.

Scheme and coaches. It might be internal drive and his history indicates that, but this guy was considered a generational talent in his draft. That hasn't changed and now he's healthy.

The FO needs to find a HC and DC who can get the most out of the talent we have. I want a DC that can put CY in a system/scheme where he is in attack mode and doesn't what to take a play off or make mistakes. We have 2 physical freaks on the D-line and those are guys you can build around. Bresee and Young, build a defense that capitalizes on their strengths.
he needs a coach that will demand him to play to his potential. (He probably wants that push, but he wouldn't admit it) He needs an anger instinct to be brought out of him. Just imagine how he'd play under Dan Campbell.

Sounds like we're getting a comp pick, which is good, obviously. He stayed healthy for the most part and has talents that, like with pure speed in a receiver, are transferable. He was on a prove-it deal anyway, and for the most part, he proved it. It keeps d-line a top priority in the draft, along with o-line. Trenches, people, trenches!

Agree about Chase, Disagree on Cam. Despite seeing fewer snaps than Chase prior to the 2nd Panthers game, he finished w/ 1.5 less sacks than Young. He was being used incorrectly and Chase was given more snaps to justify his acquisition. Young finished w/ 31 tckls and 5.5 sacks.

Cam
First 7 Games - 10 tckls 0 scks
Last 8 Games - 24 tckls 4 sacks

I believe that the only viable player who could bring a comp pick is Adebo if he signs a decent contract with someone else! With him coming off an injury he could wind up signing a ‘prove it’ deal mitigating any possible comp pick.
