Nick Underhill’s concern with Saints O-Line might be “heightened” (1 Viewer)

For context, let's acknowledge that only one starter (Penning) played that game. It's fair to say our depth looks poor, and unfortunately it's more probable than not that we'll need to rely on depth. But we'll also have the loser of the Hurst/Peat position battle ready to step in at G/T should someone go down (neither of whom played Sunday).

I think the fate of the whole O-line will rest on how Penning plays, which is a little scary.

Good points.

Said he’s no longer concerned about LBer position. Pass rush is wait and see.

This is scary because Underhill generally knows more than the public and the public knows this:

Ramczyk: 77.9
Ruiz: 56.6
McCoy: 61.2
Peat: 50.6
Hurst: 63.2
Penning: 73.6

That is a very weak interior line, and Penning is still developing/unknown.

He is concerned, I am terrified.

That’s what I can to ask. How many starters played Sunday? I agree this looks more like a depth issue - which is not a small issue considering how banged up our linemen tend to get.

However, this offense seems to really rely on linemen that have a lot of versatility and can play numerous positions. So I feel like what we might see in preseason from the o-line isn’t totally reflective of what we’ll see in regular season.

At least that’s what we can hope.

I was for sure worried about Ruiz this time last year, I think he will be even better than he was last season. The real weak link right now is Peat. Let's see what happens.

It's the backups that have been playing horrid. Saldiveri looked better this week. The more reps he gets, I believe he'll get even better. Filiaga didn't look to bad, he had one false start penalty thrown against him. Kidd on the other hand wasn't very good. He had 2 holding penalties thrown on him and whiffed on a few blocks which forced Haener out of the pocket. Storm Norton is another one who had a couple of penalties thrown his way. I saw Penning miss a block. But for the most part he held up good in pass protection and was serving up pancakes again in this game. But I am worried about the backups. I'll be watching again for O-Line play this weekend.
