Nick Underhill’s concern with Saints O-Line might be “heightened” (1 Viewer)

For context, let's acknowledge that only one starter (Penning) played that game. It's fair to say our depth looks poor, and unfortunately it's more probable than not that we'll need to rely on depth. But we'll also have the loser of the Hurst/Peat position battle ready to step in at G/T should someone go down (neither of whom played Sunday).
let's not forget that Peat can only play on the left side of the line. bizarre, but born out by the historical facts as truth...

Saints addressed OL depth by signing two established vet IOL Garcia and Turner on the first day of TC. Then Turner goes on IR the next day later. Not like they didn’t try.

Nothing the Saints can do about outside concern. Develop and condition who we have on the OL.
Peat, Saldiveri and Garcia are decent depth as our top 3 OL reserves.

OL is very concerning. People keep talking about we have the QB now and the weapons, but it won’t mean diddly poo without an OL.

I don't disagree, but a weak line can be mitigated by a QB who can read defenses, process quickly, and deliver the ball before the line leaks. Carr has that ability. It appears that Haener does also, and that Jameis does not. Which may explain why Jameis and Haener have similar stats, with similar playing time, but Jameis has taken 5 sacks and Haener has taken none. In all fairness to Jameis though, I'd rather take 5 sacks than give away 1 turnover. JMO...

I completely agree, but I think it takes an elite passing QB to mitigate a weak line or a QB with the threat of running. I think Derek Carr is a very good QB, but I’m not sure I can say that he’s elite… yet! Hopefully he comes out and has his best season ever!

This is scary because Underhill generally knows more than the public and the public knows this:

Ramczyk: 77.9
Ruiz: 56.6
McCoy: 61.2
Peat: 50.6
Hurst: 63.2
Penning: 73.6

That is a very weak interior line, and Penning is still developing/unknown.

He is concerned, I am terrified.
Are those Madden scores?

Our starting 5 is fine. Good, even.

Either Peat or Hurst are good 6th guys.

But beyond that is trouble. The dropoff is huge.

I’d love to see us hit the waiver wire hard once cuts start. Maybe even make a trade before cuts.

Slightly more credible: PFF. Not omniscient but a pretty good neutral source.

Any way you slice it, our interior guys are not good. We think they are good because they were drafted high and we keep hearing their names. But they are not good. We can only hope that Penning develops and we excel on the edges.

I wonder if itll be the same members "hating the pick" if we draft OL in the first round next April that are panicking about our OL depth now?

Every team in the league has OL depth issues. Few teams have 5 guys as good as our top 6. Any team missing 2 or 3 starters on the OL is going to struggle. Hopefully, this is the year that our OL stays intact.
