Nick Underhill’s concern with Saints O-Line might be “heightened” (1 Viewer)

This is scary because Underhill generally knows more than the public and the public knows this:

Ramczyk: 77.9
Ruiz: 56.6
McCoy: 61.2
Peat: 50.6
Hurst: 63.2
Penning: 73.6

That is a very weak interior line, and Penning is still developing/unknown.

He is concerned, I am terrified.

Peat will be your #6 and the true weak link is #7. I think Hurst is going to play really well at G. Our OL will be mediocre in the middle, but Carr has shown the ability to escape the pocket and throw on the move. We haven't had that in two years.

Yeah, we have some depth issues (so bummed Trai Turner got hurt). That said, I think we should be optimistic, especially assuming if the lights come on for Penning. You can't have All-Pro's at every position. Ramczyk is a boss, super durable. Ruiz, after a shaky start to his career, seemed to figure it out last year, solid. McCoy is a very solid and durable center. The left side of the line is the question marks. Peat/Hurst...glad we have both...kinda hope Hurst wins this battle. And then Penning. Could have something special in him if he figures it out.

For context, let's acknowledge that only one starter (Penning) played that game. It's fair to say our depth looks poor, and unfortunately it's more probable than not that we'll need to rely on depth. But we'll also have the loser of the Hurst/Peat position battle ready to step in at G/T should someone go down (neither of whom played Sunday).
Not only that, but Hurst and Peat can play guard or tackle, and Ruiz can play center fairly well if needed. The real questions along the line are related to the development of Penning as a LT and Saldiveri as a backup RG sooner than later. Both are young guys, so they're likely to get better and better with reps.

There's a significant concern if 3+ starters are down at once, but most every OL in the league would struggle under those circumstances.

That's just obvious. The starting five is okay but depth is the real issue. But in my opinion, the offensive line played better against the Chargers than they did against the Chiefs. My biggest question is whether Penning is ready.
I don’t remember, besides Penning did the starting five play after the first drive against the Chiefs?

No...but like i said the starting five is ok. But depths is a concern with that group. I seriously thought they played better this last game than the Chiefs game.

Our Oline is due for a healthy year. The only guy that's guaranteed to be injured is Peat and he may be coming off the bench. Hopefully Penning's injuries last season was an outlier.

As others have said I feel ok to good about the starting line plus 1 or 2 deep. I have a good feeling about Saldiveri but a lot to prove. Still have to worry about Penning getting thrown in. Those top 6 or 7 are fine though maybe really good. After that, it's scary, need some reasonable injury luck there.

The truth is not many teams can be confident past 6 linemen.

let's not forget that Peat can only play on the left side of the line. bizarre, but born out by the historical facts as truth...
