I think we should take the top 3 vote getters and have all the non-experts vote on the pick.

Jake Ikwegwuono, CB Wisconsin
This guy may not play this year due to injury, but he would be the first CB picked this year if he wasn't hurt. I think getting him in the fifth would be like picking up another 1st rounder next year

Jake Ikwegwuono, CB Wisconsin Pro Football Weekly had him rated I think as the 6th rated CB but say he will be underdrafted because of and injury concern. He would be a steal in the 5th round. He should have gone in the 3rd at the latest.

He also may never play football again due to those injuries

from NFLDraftCountdown:

injuries: a dislocation, a torn ACL, and a partially torn MCL...Was arrested with his brother in November of '06 and charged with residential burglary and criminal trespass after allegedly breaking into an apartment and trying to steal an Xbox...He profiles as a zone corner at the next level.

If we haven't done it that way from the beginning, I think it invalidates the entire thing. Let's just let the votes speak for themselves. It'll be fine. When Hester breaks out in a few years, we'll look like geniuses.

I really don't have a problem with Hester (I did NOT attend LSU) and like what he showed last season. I just believe he will be available next round, so this round should be a higher value

fwiw, Mike Detillier's rankings of the top vote getters
Steve Slaton..18.01 2nd or 3rd rd projection
Kory Lichtensteiger..17.73 3rd or 4th rd
Jacob Hester..17.70 3rd or 4th rd
Chevis Jackson..17.76 3rd or 4th rd

Jeremy Lemen >>>>>> Jacob Hester.

We already drafted a MLB Beau Bell. I voted Barnidge but i think hester would be a great pick. And no it's not homerism. Hester is all heart. He can do EVERYTHING you ask him to. Short yardage, catching blocking special teams.

It's not so much homerism as it is that the majority of SR members will have seen much more of Jacob Hester than the center from Bowling Green.
So while there may not be many, there will likely be a few people who don't really follow much college football and don't even know who Slaton or J Leman is but know Jacob Hester as the starting tailback for the national champions.

But if it's between Hester and Slaton for a situational RB, it's no contest for me, even though I am an LSU fan and love Hester's heart and passion for the game.

name me one other team in the league that has a back up fullback...

Hester would probably play RB. He would come in to get the short yardage. Deuce is just about done. Sorry for all you Deuce lover. But a runner is nothing without his knees.

I picked TE Craig Stevens. He's a good blocker, runs good routes and has good hands. He's not an explosive down field threat, but he can stay on the field all the time because he can block and he is going to open up the deep field because people will know that they have to cover him in the mid to short routes.

WE DON'T NEED HESTER. I think Hester is going to be a really good player, but we have good RBs (arguably excellent if Reggie finds his groove) and an EXCELLENT FB with Karney. We don't need him...

I went with Chevis Jackson. I think he will be a solid contributor despite his speed. Does that make me sort of a homer? Or more of a "ZOMG HE PICKED AN LSU PLAYER HE'S A HOMERRR"? Or all of the above?

if hester is picked it ruins everything we are trying to do here.... Sad!!!!

:homer: :homer: :homer:

he won't make this team if he was selected, can u say antonio pittman??? Yeah let's waste a draft pick.... whoo hoo, smart thinkin guys...

we have a top 5 fullback in carney...

Duece, RB, Steck, Pt..

he won't make the team....

Nah, Chevis is a solid pick right here. :9: I just don't see a role for Hester on this team.

Well, to be fair, wasting a draft pick would be the most "accurate" thing we could do, right?
