N/S North Carolina is finalizing a deal for Bill Belichick to be next Tarheels head coach [Belichick agrees to 5 year deal with UNC] (3 Viewers)

They gonna sell a few more season tickets.
They’re gonna get the prime time slots on Saturday night national TV.
They’re relevant.
Absolutely. It really brings more credibility to their program. I don't know if it's gonna translate to wins on the football field. They have some talent, but I'm sure it will take a couple of years before his recruits start to really impact the product on the field.

Sure, but of course not all 70 year Olds are created equal. My grandfather will be 99 in January and he was picking up and running with my kids when he was in his 70s.

I don't know what kind of shape Coach Belichick is in, but seems like he feels healthy ebough to keep doing it.
Absolutely agree.

I hope he is and I hope he does well. Will be fun to watch and see, imo.

Reminds me of the Ditka move. Which is why I feel sorry for NC fans

I be think BB chasing Shula’s record is an empty task because Reid is gonna break it eventually.
And Reid has about seven years of Mahomes left.
I didn't realize Reid was that close, but I just looked it up and that seems to be the case. BB seems to be a forward thinker, so it makes sense he realizes even if he does it, Reid will get there too and beat his new record. The only other thing for him to do is win a Super Bowl with a second team becoming the first HC to do that. Also, Reid has more than 7 years left with Mahomes I'm sure.

7 years from now, Mahomes will be 36/37.
If there’s anyone that goes past 37, it’s him.
But i don’t pencil in QBs playing past that.

Yeah, it seems more like a hire to raise their profile, get more tickets sold and interest in the program, so that the next coach they hire is better than what they normally get and he can be the guy to have them winning the ACC and getting into the playoffs.

Honestly, kind of like what Colorado is doing with Sanders. I just can't see him staying there much, if at all, past when his kids have graduated. They won't have really won anything at that point, but the profile of the program will be raised for them to hire a good coach that might stay long term.

Deion has had a huge impact up the road in Boulder, I don't think it can be overstated. Even if he splits after next year I appreciate that he made the football program exciting while my son is going there -- they won 1 game his freshman year, now they're on TV every week.

Yeah, that's what I was trying to say. I don't think he stays long and maybe doesn't win anything, but he brought that program back to national attention which really helps in the NIL era and with recruiting the next coach and future coaches. That's a program nobody has really thought of since the early to mid-1990s when Eric Bienemy and Cordell Stewart were there. And suddenly they are on the map again.

I haven’t studied the finances yet, but with college basketball losing its cultural relevance; I think this is part of North Carolina’s master plan to turn into a legit football school.
Especially since the playoff is 12 teams now; you’re gonna see more schools make their first appearance(s) and legit runs.
You’re also gonna see a few new programs win natty(s).

I do. 40 is the new limit. I'll bet you 100 dollars that barring a major injury, Mahomes hits at least 40 years old.
I wouldn’t go that far. Brees and Brady are the only ones to still produce to my knowledge.
Like I said, if there is someone to join that group, it is Mahomes.
Thank god he’s in the AFC.
