N/S Now That Payton Is Taken, The Next Rumored Cowboys Coach Is…. (2 Viewers)

SSSHhhhhhh, don't tell the great Peter King, he swears that any year now that CSP will be coaching the Cowboys....(since 2010).....

A little bit of NFL history for some on you.

The Saints made a very solid offer to sign Deion Samders in 1994, but the Niners swooped in and signed him to a one year deal that, on paper, paid him far less. The year 1994 is a pivotal year in NFL history as it was the first year of the salary cap. The Saints offer would have made Prime Time the second highest paid defensive player in the league. Four years $17.1 million.

Instead of signing with the Saints, Sanders signed a one year deal with the 49'ers, which on paper, paid him just $1,884,000 for one year. Years later, in 2000, former 49'ers team executives Carmen Policy and Dwight Clark were fined hundreds of thousands of dollars and the 49'ers were also fined for violating the NFL salary cap in 1994. They were popped for relatively minor players, Jim Druckenmiller and Lee Woodall, but I always suspected that they actually paid Deion Sanders a boatload of cash under the table. Sanders won a Super Bowl with the 49'ers after the 1994 season and signed with the Cowboys in 1995, where he won another Super Bowl after the 1995 season. I always suspected that the NFL and 49'ers swept under the rug the under the table payments to Sanders, likely made by the 49'ers in 1994, because they couldn't make a future Hall of Fame player out to be a cheat.

That's just my two cents on this. How different would NFL history be in Deion Ssmders had played for the Saints from 1994 through 1997, instead of the Niners (Super Bowl 1994) and the Cowboys (Super Bowl 1995)?

I hope Deion Sanders has a great coaching career going forward. I'm very excited about his future

If the Cowboys and Broncos are both lackluster this year, I could see SP in Dallas. I wouldn’t like it, but it’s possible. Depends on what his QB crystal ball says. I don’t see Denver having a year 1 like we did with him, and the honeymoon may be over.

I still think that the LA teams are doing this...there's NO way they can compete dollar for dollar with the sky high cost of living in LA.

I hope you’re right. I mean look how he made Jackson State cool. Now he’s making the Buffs relevant again. Since they’re a P5 school I can certainly hope that the influence he brings with him can keep him around a while. If he can make CU good then there’s no reason he can’t accomplish at CU what he could accomplish anywhere in the college scene. I’m positive NFL teams will come calling every year though (especially Jerry lol).
I wouldn’t get too attached. Deion has always been a mercenary. Once he proves successful, he’ll entertain NFL offers or head off to another college program.

Prime Time is an excellent motivator of young, college men, no doubt. Will it work in the pros, I don't know.
Saban is the same but couldn’t make it work in the pros. Pete did in Seattle

So....now that CSP is taken, who will be their next interest? Easy - Sean Payton!

You think coughing up a 1st or 2 is going to deter Jerrah...if he wants his guy he'll try to make it happen...the rumors aren't going to die.

IMO, Denver is in purgatory with or without CSP. They're never going to top KC as long as PM is there and healthy, eventually CSP will see that as well and start to weasel his way out.

I doubt it. Payton is already getting up there in age.

Yeah you're probably right about that...but there is an inherent arrogance/sense of entitlement in Dallas that let's them (talking heads) think that they can get whoever just because.

Reality: Denver is 99.99998% his last stop before he goes back to TV

So Sanders is the only P5 HC that is a “mercenary”?

I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again.
He’s stat padding his win total to get to 200 so he’ll be a lock for the Hall.
I’m calling it now, once he gets there, he’s retiring to some island.

I’ve never been a Deion fan because of his cockiness … but Dude has NEVER failed to walk the walk to back up his talk … that said, I believe Primetime and Jerry working together would cause a quick implosion for Dallas (I guess I should wish for it 😉👍) … how long did Jimmy Johnson last with a Pokes despite being a great coach (albeit being another one of those I’m not a fan of but respect the hell out of)? … Even Dallas isn’t big enough to handle both Jerry’s and Deion’s personalities/egos

Seems a lot is being put in the winning of one game
God you could not be more right. I have literally started blocking all this nonsense on Twitter/X. 1 game. Win a National Championship and I will change my mind.
