Official Game Day Thread: Commanders @ Saints 12/15/24 (13 Viewers)

Not only did I not like the decision to go for 2, that was a really, really bad play-design. There were only 2 Saints in the end zone, and both were going from left to right, and on the same right side of the field. Meanwhile, Ratter was rolling out and running from the 12 yard line, where he was zero threat to run in and score. So, Washington had about 5 players covering 2 receivers. A better team would have sent one player to the other corner, and at least give Ratter an option to come to a complete stop, then run left or throw left using misdirection. When your 2 point play design is that awful, it is even more reason to kick the PAT.

You need JJ to make that catch but it would have been a great catch if he made it. Very few TEs can make that catch.

Personally, I would have liked to see them spread the Commanders out and either run a draw to Miller or QB draw. The other option I like there is zone read.
Maybe, but they really didn't have much success with those type of plays much of the game. I just don't see running in that spot as a high percentage play.

I just feel like you're at home with the defense playing well and the offense feeling it. At that point, I like my chances in OT rather than risking it all on one quick play. If we had a Michael Thomas, Colston, Jimmy Graham, and/or Brees, I might have felt different. But, we don't really have a go to guy that close to the end zone. I like our chances better in OT.

But, in the end a really close loss with Rattler leading the team may be the best result for this team for the long term.
The defense was playing hard but they were sucking wind that last drive. I don't think they would have held up long in OT, especially considering Daniels legs.

I’m glad that one of the two QBs undeniably stood out as our best option to move the offense. I hate when everyone is calling for the guy on the bench simply because no one has established themselves as being the best option.

Rattler did that today and made it clear that our best chance of winning is with him as our starter. Now hopefully Kamara isn’t busted up too badly. :covri:

It might be a long wait for another hall of fame QB.

No I get that and you’re absolutely right. It may never happen again. But what Carr needs to be borderline above average is something we can’t give him - an elite roster. He is the worst guy to have leading a cash strapped, old, oft injured, lack of depth and quality roster. He requires elite players elevating his game, not the other way around.

He is what he is. Average.

We need a completely new set of eyes. Loomis is cooked as a gm. He can’t fix it, because he created it. And he just keeps digging and digging.

This has entered into ditka era level hopelessness.

He’s a middle of the pack QB which is what most of the teams in the league have. Our biggest problem is injuries. Our record in games that he misses or doesn’t finish the past two years is something like 1-9. And it’s not just him. We haven’t had a healthy starting QB season since like 2017.

Our biggest problem every year is injuries. And lack of depth. And lack of quality starters. And poor draft picks. And lack of middle round draft picks that develop into quality starters. And cap space. And bad extensions creating dead money, reducing said cap space.

So you take your best case, average quarterback who is a bit of a choke artist, who throws his teammates under a bus here and there (name 1 time Brees did that) who requires above average talent around him - that you don't have and you cant get.....you remain slightly below average.

Blame Loomis for all the above.

But average QBs have won Super Bowls. Average QBs have won playoff games. In 11 years, Carr has won all of 0 playoff games. Hell he has only lost 1. He is 15 games under .500 as a starter. He isnt the kind of average we need. We need a reset, and it starts with Loomis, and Carr needs to head out as well.

Average Andy Dalton is 2 games above .500, and has at least played in 4 playoff games. Im not saying he is the answer, but I don't see any difference between him and Carr outside of the fact that he wins more games.
