Happy New Year, Saints Nation, and WHO DAT!!!! Our 2017 New Orleans Saints, fresh from winning their NFC South Divisional title, and finishing their regular season at 11-5 last Sunday, are back in the NFL postseason as they host Cam Newton and the visiting Carolina Panthers, as our beloved Saints will try to do the trifecta, by defeating the Panthers for the third time in the same NFL season.
Saints achieved earlier in December winning their sixth division title in franchise history, including their fourth NFC South title, and are also in the playoffs for the first time since 2013. New Orleans also equaled their 11-5 2017 NFL season record in their 2013 NFL season.
Saints are also hosting an NFL Home Playoff Game in New Orleans for the first time in six years, since defeating the Detroit Lions 45-28, in the 2011 NFC Wild Card Playoff Game back on January 2, 2012.
A win by the Saints would mean New Orleans would travel to play the Minnesota Vikings next Sunday for the 2018 NFC Divisional Playoff. Saints hopefully would earn a second visit to Minnesota, and their second appearance in a Super Bowl, for Super Bowl LII in February.
New Orleans earlier swept the home and home series over Carolina in this past 2017 NFL regular season. Saints earlier defeated the Panthers in Charlotte, North Carolina, by the score of 34-13 back on September 24. Saints later won the rematch over the Panthers 31-21 back on December 3. Saints outscored the Panthers 65-34 in both games.
Both New Orleans and Carolina have met 46 times during the regular season, with the Panthers still leading the all-time series, winning 24 games over 22 losses, but both the Saints and Panthers are playing in their first-ever poastseason game.
