if this seems to a bit of a shock post than i deeply apologize, but admidst all ot the talk of trading down, drafting wells or jenkins, and no OLB, DT, or DB being worth the #14th overall selection recently, i thought that i owed it to my fellow fans here to try to get us all to take a moment to appreciate just what kind of athlete this kid Connor barwin is.

40-time: 4.47 (better than curry and urlacher)

vertical: 40 1/2 (better than curry and urlacher)

3-cone: 6.84 (as good as curry and urlacher)

20 yd shuttle: 4.18 ( better than curry and as good as urlacher)

how about production you say?

he had 10 sacks last year for cincy.

what do you guys think about barwin at 14#?

(before you guys mention that he played DE and TE, please remeber that urlacher was a safety at NM)

Looks good on paper, but what you're suggesting in your title is absolutely rediculous. There's a reason he's not a top ranked OLB.

believe me when i say that i understand that.

there is a good reason that he's not rated a top ranked linebacker. probably because he was never really asked to play there.
again, urlacher played safety at new mexico but was still defensive rookie of the year in 2000.

anything is possible.

the kid really seems to have the talent, toughness, and agility to make the switch and of all of the 3-4 olb prospects that i have seen in this draft this kid seems to have the most ability to be an extremely good 4-3 everydown backer.

I bet he ends up in New England...seems like their type of player.

:beerchug:

I like him and think he could be a blitzing SLB in the 4-3 that puts his hands down on passing downs. Ala Charlie Clemons a few years ago. I definitely like him better than Cushing and Matthews. Next Adalius Thomas possibly? Not sure who else he reminds me of. Looks like one of those Baltimore Raven freaks of nature though.

i actually took notice of the kid yesterday surfing a new england message board.

they were going crazy over his pro day!

Barwin made a believer out of me.

Someone will be very happy with him as a late 1st or early 2nd round pick. If we trade down, I would grab him in a heartbeat with the first or 2nd pick.

But can he play safety? Probably so!

I agree he seems like one of those New England or Baltimore versatile type of players. Gregg Williams wants to be mutiple and use players strengths. Intriguing thought.

These are the types of things that I want to see from a LBer. When his assignments were to blitz he did until there was a screen, he then abandoned his blitz to make a play on the screen and knocks down the ball. Same with the reverse.

I like him more than Matthews.

if you keep comparing his abilities to some of the great linebackers that have come out in the past 10 years it is really hard not to be impressed.

look at how he compares with patrick willis

willis is slightly faster but barwin owns him in everything else.

Better than Curry? No.

The next Urlacher? More likely Curry is, LOL.

If you asked all 32 franchises whether they'd prefer Curry or Barwin, all 32 would tell you Curry.

Both are unproven and shouldn't be compared to the great pro Urlacher.

If NE wants the pick in order to take him, he'll be there, and we'll be listening to the offer.
