OLB CONNOR BARWIN: the next Urlacher?? better than curry???!!!! (1 Viewer)

Seems to play with lot of heart and is excellent at diagnosing.the plays. Seems slow and doesn't look very strong to me. Not #1 talent IMO.

Better than Curry? No.

The next Urlacher? More likely Curry is, LOL.

If you asked all 32 franchises whether they'd prefer Curry or Barwin, all 32 would tell you Curry.

Both are unproven and shouldn't be compared to the great pro Urlacher.

If NE wants the pick in order to take him, he'll be there, and we'll be listening to the offer.

once again urlacher was a safety at new mexico and was projected as OLB before the draft. view the link above.

furthermore, i am merely comparing their athleticism. why do you always take my posts to mean "this kid will definetly be" or the "saints will definetly be doing such and such".

i just speculating. that's all dude!

isn't that the fun in the draft?

Kudos for starting a draft post with different thinking. It gets boring talking about the same ole players over and over again (Jenkins, Beanie Wells, etc.)

And when does the players we discuss here the most get drafted by the Saints. Robert Meacham - we don't need a WR moron. Reggie will be a Texan and you were stupid if you thought differently. Deuce Mcallister is going top 10 and we have Ricky idiot. Will Smith will be long gone before we pick and we already have Charles Grant and Darren Howard. Your are not a smart fan if you don't believe who the boards concensus say we will pick. I will remember this post if we get Barwin and you will have called it. Good post!!

could be because he is disengaging offensive lineman because he played DE last year.

look at his vertical on display as he jumps in the air to bat the ball down. think of his potential on third down as a de or blitzer and as others have pointed out the kid has shown an ability to read plays. and as a down lineman there is one play in the clip where he gets an unbeilievable jump off of the snap.

cushing started a whole year at DE and didn't have 10 sacks http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=174146

a guy like this could also save us a roster spot because he can play DE on 3rd downs.

Slow! Wow I would expect more of a he is workout warrior than the that kid is smart and plays with heart but just doesn't have the athletism type of post. His ten yard split was off the charts which shows how quick he is off the ball. If he is excellent at diagnosing plays as you believe then he will be a stud.

What?

I say "Both are unproven and shouldn't be compared to the great pro Urlacher." and your response is about BU being a safety at New Mexico? I don't see the relation.

Speculating? And how!

And a reminder, this is a forum, I state my opinion, you state yours.

Other people state their opinions.

There is no need to respond to everybody.

there were a few people here that called me crazy last year when i said that Chris johnson and dustin keller would be first round selections.

well.......we see how that went.

but honestly, i don't care about the credit if we simply draft a lb that could be compared to some of the saints greats of all time if indeed this is what this kid turns out to be.

I like Barwin, his numbers are what made him stand out from the crowd at DE. He's very good straight line speed but not an impressive first step or explosiveness. He seems smart with a high football IQ as you can actually see him diagnosing plays as they happen and adjusting to take good angles and other adjustments, which I like. He reminds me of Trent Cole (Eagles) probably because they both played college ball at Cincy. So I think he'll also be successful at the NFL level. He has good speed and intelligence but like WSTMNRBMW stated he's not super fast or strong so he's not an elite prospect. However, whoever gets him will have a good football player and he has alot of potential to get better.

Looks good on paper, but what you're suggesting in your title is absolutely rediculous. There's a reason he's not a top ranked OLB.
...because he never played the position before
I would love to have this kid but he will probably end up in new england in the first or second round, dont they have like a million picks in the first and second rounds?

and his first step is pretty damn good, hes very explosive (not just on film, his workout numbers reflect that) and good at diagnosing plays.

i'm simply giving perspective on this kids' physical talent level, i have no idea how he would work out at line backer but anyone can project.

anything could happen.

i'd be the first person to admitt that i don't have a crystal ball.

please forgive me if i sounded defensive in my tone. i truly didn't mean it that way.

he runs a 4.4 forty.

that's better than curry.

as far as his strength goes......i think 10 sacks speaks for itself.

not if we like him at 14.:mwink:

I really like this kid and also think he would make a great rush lb. He has shown he has a team. He has a high motor and a team first attitude. He has shown the avility to play multiple positions and make the switch with success. I dont know about taking him at 14 but if we trade back he would be a great adfition to the team.

he runs a 4.4 forty. *that's better than curry.**as far as his strength goes......i think 10 sacks speaks for itself.

Let me rephrase then, he is not explosive off the ball but he has top gear speed.*Sacks has nothing to do with strength.*The kid looks strong too but he's not Orakpo is all.*I see him as a DE not an OLB.*So for him to be a dynamo at DE he needs strength and explosiveness.* He looks like a hybrid which works well in the 34 defense.*If we ran a 3-4 he would likely be more valuable but a DE like Ayers is what the Saints need. If he is going to play OLB then he'll need time to learn and develop.*Rookie season would see him used as a buck LB like someone else said.*Charlie Clemons' old position, basically a LB who rushes like a DE off the edge.

Keep in mind measureables aren't everything and don't always equate to being able to change positions.

Similar story to Matthews except this guy actually started the whole year and was MUCH more productive. He's also faster. If you're gonna take a shot on a project who has flashed some serious potential I think you gotta go with Barwin over Matthews.
