OLB CONNOR BARWIN: the next Urlacher?? better than curry???!!!! (1 Viewer)

will definitley be a steal if he's a 2nd rounder, totally 1st round material.

May end up being a stud. Half of the first rounders will end up either as busts or only average anyway but teams still seem scared to take risks on prospects like him in the first. I actually believe his best position will be 4-3 OLB. I think he would look good in Greg Williams defense.

did i mention that he also blocked 3 kicks last year.

last year was his first year playing defense in college!!!

11 sacks and 3 blocked kicks, 16 tackles for loss, and broke up 8 passes.

that is absolutely incredible!

if people here won't jump on this bandwagon in favor of the juicers from usc then i don't know what to say.

I like him also as a high to mid 2nd. Reminds me of Adalius Thomas when he was with Baltimore. Versatile athlete who can do a lot of things for your defense.

they actually compare alot physically.

but another thing to consider when evaluating prospects is body-type. both cushing and matthews have stiffness in their frame that i don't much care for. cushing has a stiff upper body and isn't as sound a tackler that i would prefer while matthews does not excell in space because of his stiff lower body.

barwin as he points out and scott wright above agrees, excells in space because he has the build. this is why he also excelled at tighend at cincinnati.

he even caught 6 touchdowns and had a 100 yard recieving game i believe.

That's not the reports I have heard from scouts on both ESPN and NFL Network about Matthews. They say Matthews moves like a free safety, not a LB. So that would be the OPPOSITE for Clay Matthews.

This kid is unreal.....he shows up at every position he plays. TE, DE, anything....I can't see him getting pat the first.

cushing reportedly moved the best dropping into coverage at the senior bowl of all the linebackers in attendance at the senior bowl.

when i watch tape of cushing i cant help but notice that he is not the wrap-tackler that james laurinitis is or aaron curry is for that matter either.

either way, last year was this kid's first year on D and look at the stats he posted.

compare that to cushing and matthews stats and the fact that they both tested positive for steroids.

Look at my thread titled "Rank these prospects". It is interesting that not projecting them as Saints prospects but overall NFL prospects instead both Matthews and Cushing are low on everyones lists. I think people are just seeing an OLB need for the Saints and see these two as the most likely picks but definetly not their first choices.

i noticed that too.

cushing also was a injury risk and as i mentioned above there are some flaws i don't like with his skills. matthews, pedigree aside does have his share of detractors too who agree with my assessment.

see weakness section.

i also noticed that barwin wasn't on the list either.:ezbill:

Wow! This guy is fast! I think he has better initial quickness and pass rush ability than Curry. Curry is a better all around LB though....

First, I agree with you, I think Barwin has the potential to be better than Cushing and Matthews. Right now they have more momentum, so they are rated higher and will go a round before Barwin, but that doesn't necessarily make them better.

Second, it is not a "fact" that they tested positive for steriods. Yet. A blog site reported that they heard it and several other sites repeated their claim. No one has confirmed it outside, only repeated that there are "reports" of such a positive result. One site has since taken DOWN that webpage, which makes you wonder if it's true.

GOOD CALL

BTW, the bleacherreports article has been deleted and the major sports sites are mum.... do we have a possible libel suit in the making?

This guy is an athletic freak who makes plays and has the measurables to play anywhere on the field, but it completely depends where the Saints have him rated because this is guy who will have a really high standard deviation from team-to-team.
