Onyemata suspended for banned substance (1 Viewer)

The supplements can have the formula changed after the testing the player submits it for. (that is what happened in the Starcaps case).

I have often wondered why the NFL doesn't start a program where a manufacturer submits their products for testing and if it passes they are allowed to put a "approved by the NFL" on the bottle. The league would also at random times pull random samples off a store shelf and test to see if they have changed it since they submitted for approval. If they have then not only that product but all products the company produces become banned and word is put out to all players through the NFLPA to immediately stop using the companies products. The cost of the program would easily be covered by licensing fees and any profits after expenses split between the NFL and NFLPA.
You are suggesting a viable, commonsense procedure. The problem is that the NFL is not noted for implementing such reasonable solutions

THIS! ALL OF THIS!!!!!

Tbh, Im still kinda bothered about not extending Marcus Williams before yesterday's deadline. And now this!! Loomis better start making calls towards Dre Kirkpatrick, Geno Atkins & Kwon Alexander before it definitely too late

They're going to have to get a free agent b/c the line is so young now filled w/ undrafted players. I like Tuttle and Roach but we need more.

Yeah, Kwon for sure should be on the line now.

I was also surprised, but a friend mentioned to me this morning that 'it takes two to tango' and I have a suspicion that Williams' agent advised him to wait until next year when he has all the leverage - that being it will probably be prohibitive to utilize a second Franchise tag on him, thus almost guaranteeing that some other team will be able to way over pay vs the cap constricted Saints. My guess is that Loomis offered him a good contract which he believe he will be able to far surpass next year in the FA market.

The problem is that you don’t test for manufacturer names...they test for specific drugs. But I agree that manufacturers should submit their drug through the NFL drug testing. So if it gets clear there is somewhat of a stamp of approval. But if the athlete comes up with a substance on the banned list it’s still their responsibility.

undue burden on the players
NFL takes the responsibility of testing/clearing supplements, et al then the company comes in for huge fines/bans if they change formula without telling anyone (nfl, players, public)

Great points, but the NFL is a joke for 1. They don’t like doing anything unless they are pushed or threatened with a potential lawsuit secondly. And third, they already make a crap ton of money, with the trajectory pointing upward. They wouldn’t see the point of trying to help players in this manner if it cost them time and such.
And this is another reason, why fans need to take a stand against the NFL office and the players as well, when things are going amiss. We (the fans), are their ticket. Directly and indirectly. If anyone has doubt about this, watch and see what would happen, if fans would organize across the country by not going to games and not watching games on TV for 4 weeks! I know that is wishful thinking, but it would for certain catch the league by surprise and would get their attention on change. Oh well. At least outside of me not having season tickets any more and only watching Saints games, I did my part.

They are always looking for new ways to grow the revenue. That is also one of their responsibilities under the CBA. This plan would generate profits for the NFL, NFLPA, and increase the cap.
I get that it would make them money, but they are still lazy and really don’t make changes that makes sense. Besides, I honestly don’t think they like helping the players. However, they seem to love suspending them though.

No doubt. What are the players supposed to do? Call the company and ask what they're putting in the product but not putting on the label? Call the manufacturing facility in China and ask what was in latest batch? Ignorance of the law is no excuse except when it absolutely is lol.
